Inter Miami pre-season 2024: Fixtures and schedule

Inter Miami and eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi are set for a busy pre-season ahead of their highly anticipated 2024 Major League Soccer campaign.

Every team in professional sports schedules pre-season contests to get back in the gist of things before the real competition starts to heat up. MLS sides typically play around three to four such contests, all taking place in North America.

However, Miami are a different animal. With the greatest player the game has ever seen in Messi, it’s no surprise to see the Herons schedule six pre-season friendlies starting in January at their home ground, DRV PNK Stadium, to across the world in Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia in February.

Here’s Miami’s full list of pre-season friendlies starting next year.

The Herons’ first friendly clash comes against the El Salvador national team on January 19 at DRV PNK Stadium, as Miami will hopefully have a fully-fit Messi as well as Luis Suarez to take on the Central American nation who are on a winless run of 13 games dating back to June 2022.

The Herons then depart south Florida to take part in the Riyadh Season Cup in Saudi Arabia.

Miami clashes with Al Hilal on January 29, which would’ve seen a reunion between Messi and former Barcelona teammate Neymar before the Brazilian suffered a serious knee injury in October. Still, Messi and Miami will square off with the Saudi Pro League side that boasts the likes of Ruben Neves, Malcom and Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Miami will take on Al Nassr and the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo on February 1, pitting the two figures against one another for what just might be ‘one last dance’ after months of constant rumors.

Following Miami’s participating in the Riyadh Season Cup, the team will head farther east for a contest with the Hong Kong Team on February 4. No, not the Hong Kong national team — the Hong Kong Team — which will be comprised of the best players from the Hong Kong First Division League.

Messi and Co. will stay in Asia but travel to Japan for a clash with Vissel Kobe on February 7, who recently captured the J1 League title for the first time in club history.

The 2023 Leagues Cup champions round off their pre-season activities and first-ever international tour back at home at DRV PNK Stadium against Liga Professional side Newell’s Old Boys on February 15.

Although it’s just a friendly, it will be an emotional one for Messi and head coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino, as the two came through the Argentinian club’s ranks as youngsters and both hail from Rosario.
