La Liga president reveals belief that Spanish club will sign Kylian Mbappe

La Liga president Javier Tebas has claimed he is “70 or 80%” sure that Kylian Mbappe will join a Spanish club next summer.

Mbappe has long been linked with a move to the Real Madrid ever since his breakout 2016/17 season with AS Monaco.

The forward was expected to sign for Los Blancos on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2022, but performed an astonishing U-turn and signed a new contract at Parc des Princes instead.

That latest contract expires in 2024 and 90min understands Mbappe does not intend to sign another in the French capital, which would pave the way for his long-awaited move to Spain.

In an interview with Movistar+, La Liga chief Tebas revealed he expects Mbappe to become the league’s latest superstar next year.

“Convinced, no, but it is a destiny for him, for sure. I think he will be in La Liga next season at 70 or 80%,” Tebas said.

Mbappe is currently spearheading a new-look PSG attack following the exits of Lionel Messi and Neymar. France teammates Randal Kolo Muani and Ousmane Dembele joined over the summer, as did Goncalo Ramos and Bradley Barcola.

Luis Enrique’s side sit third in Ligue 1 having taken 11 points from their opening six games, while they beat Borussia Dortmund in their Champions League opener last week.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, saw their perfect start to the new season come to an end on Sunday, with city rivals Atletico Madrid inflicting a 3-1 defeat at the Estadio Metropolitano.

Los Blancos notably entered the season with only one recognised striker – Espanyol loanee Joselu – and were tipped to make a move for Mbappe over the summer, though ultimately decided against an approach.
