Liverpool injuries: Fitness updates and return dates after November international break

Liverpool will be aiming to continue their impressive start to the season when they return from the November international break, with Jurgen Klopp hoping to welcome back some injured personnel ahead of the festive period.

The Reds entered the international hiatus with some fitness concerns. Klopp was without plenty of players for the victory over Brentford in their last match.

With a trip to Manchester City first up after the break in the early Saturday kick-off slot that Klopp loathes so much, Liverpool will need as many players fit for the trip to the Etihad as possible.

Here is the latest update on Liverpool’s injured players.

Having been a surprise absentee for the 3-0 win over Brentford before the international break, Liverpool supporters will have been fearing the worst regarding Ibrahima Konate. The injury-prone centre-back also withdrew from the France squad for games against Gibraltar and Greece.

However, the defender suffered a minor muscle injury and is expected to be fit after the international break. If all goes well, Konate could start at the Etihad, with his poise and pace needed to stifle Man City’s numerous attacking threats.

Another defensive concern heading into the international break was Joe Gomez, with the centre-back also absent for the clash with Brentford.

However, Gomez missed the game against the Bees as a precaution after suffering a minor knock, meaning he should be fit and firing for the game with Man City.

Having been used across the defensive line this season, the 26-year-old may be favoured at left-back over Kostas Tsimikas, offering the Reds a little more solidity.

Ryan Gravenberch missed Liverpool’s last two matches with a minor knee injury, but his return date has always been pencilled in for after the international break.

The Dutchman will want to continue his impressive form if chosen against Man City, especially in the knowledge that the Netherlands have qualified for Euro 2024 next summer.

Having missed six of Liverpool’s last eight games through a mixture of injury and suspension, Klopp will be hoping that he can rely on Curtis Jones’ fitness ahead of the busy winter fixture list.

The 22-year-old midfielder should be fit after the international break and will likely start as part of Liverpool’s midfield trio if in good shape.

Having suffered a dislocated shoulder during the October international break, Andy Robertson is still facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Already missing for a month, the left-back will be out for another eight weeks as a minimum.

Guaranteed to be missing until next year, Robertson could return in February 2024.

Yet to play a game for Liverpool this season, the injury-prone Thiago Alcantara is still some way off returning to the pitch.

The Spaniard has suffered multiple setbacks after undergoing hip surgery earlier in the year and is likely to be missing until the beginning of 2024 according to Klopp.

After a promising breakout season with the Reds last year, Stefan Bajcetic’s injury woes have meant he has barely featured for Liverpool this term.

The 19-year-old has played just two matches for the Reds as a calf injury has limited his game time, with no official timeframe on the midfielder’s return.
