Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest – Premier League: TV channel, team news, lineups and prediction

Liverpool will be aiming to keep pace with their rivals at the top of the Premier League table when they welcome Nottingham Forest to Anfield this Sunday.

The Reds have returned from the international break with two wins; a 2-0 victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby and a 5-1 thrashing of Toulouse in the Europa League on Thursday. Jurgen Klopp’s side could theoretically sit at the top of the Premier League table come Monday, although they would need a number of favours from elsewhere.

Liverpool are unbeaten in four matches and have won all seven of their games at Anfield across the various competitions this season. Nottingham Forest won’t be relishing a trip to Merseyside.

Steve Cooper’s side have drawn their last three Premier League games, although all were arguably winnable fixtures. Forest threw away a two-goal lead against strugglers Luton Town last time out but will be hopeful of causing Liverpool as many problems as they did in a 3-2 defeat at Anfield last campaign.

Liverpool have a few fitness concerns heading into Sunday’s clash, but Klopp doesn’t have any new injuries to contend with since defeating Everton and Toulouse.

The Reds are still missing Thiago, who is yet to feature this season, while Andy Robertson has just undergone surgery on a dislocated shoulder that will keep him out for three to four months.

The young duo of Stefan Bajcetic and Ben Doak are also missing for Klopp, with the latter closer to a first-team return at present, while Curtis Jones will serve the final game of his three-match suspension when Forest arrive at Anfield.

Liverpool will have been buoyed by Cody Gakpo getting some minutes on Thursday having picked up an injury several weeks ago against Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool predicted lineup vs Nottingham Forest (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Diaz, Nunez, Salah.

Divock Origi will miss an emotional return to Anfield this weekend after sustaining a hip injury over the international period. The Belgian forward would have received a warm welcome on Merseyside after his frequent heroics in a Liverpool shirt over the years.

Taiwo Awoniyi, who was also once a Liverpool player despite never featuring for the Reds, is also likely to miss out on the trip. The Nigerian forward scored the only goal of the game in a Forest win against Klopp’s side last term.

Callum Hudson-Odoi is out for over a month with a hamstring injury, while both Felipe and Danilo are likely to be sidelined for the game at Anfield.

Full-backs Nuno Tavares and Gonzalo Montiel are also set to be absent for Cooper as his injury list continues to grow, but there is a very slim chance that they return to the bench against Liverpool.

Nottingham Forest predicted lineup vs Liverpool (4-3-3): Turner; Aurier, Boly, Murillo, Toffolo; Sangare, Mangala, Dominguez; Gibbs-White, Wood, Elanga.

Liverpool’s home record has been consistently one of the best over recent seasons, while Forest’s away record has been underwhelming since returning to the Premier League. Despite winning at Chelsea earlier in the campaign, Cooper’s men have generally struggled to pick up points on the road.

Liverpool’s five-star performance on Thursday will boost confidence ahead of the weekend’s clash and, despite some wobbly defending so far this season, the Reds should make comfortable work of Forest’s visit to Anfield.

Prediction: Liverpool 3-1 Nottingham Forest
