Liverpool’s best and worst players in win over Bournemouth

Liverpool were forced to come from behind in order to pick up all three points in their first home game of the 2023/24 Premier League season.

The Reds conceded an Antoine Semenyo goal inside the opening two minutes, and Alexis Mac Allister was also shown a straight red card in his Anfield debut, but goals from Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota were enough for Jurgen Klopp’s men to eventually win the game 3-1.

Here’s Liverpool’s best and worst players in the win according 90min’s player ratings.

Dominik Szoboszlai: 8/10

It’s fair to say that Dominik Szoboszlai thoroughly impressed Liverpool fans on his Anfield debut for the club.

The new signing was the driving force behind basically everything good that the Reds did, running with the ball effectively and making good decisions across the final third.

Those good decisions led to Szoboszlai being chopped down in the box to win Liverpool a penalty, and the midfielder’s snap shot from 25 yards out was also palmed into the path of Diogo Jota for the third and final goal.

Honourable mention

Luis Diaz: 8/10

It’s week two of the Premier League and Luis Diaz has already scored a goal of the season contender. The Colombian audaciously flicked the ball up to himself and bicycle kicked into the corner of the net to give the Reds a lead in the game.

On top of that wonder goal, the forward’s general play was also pretty damn impressive, with his link-up play with Mohamed Salah particularly catching the eye.

Alexis Mac Allister: 4/10

Was it a harsh red card? Yes, absolutely.

Still though, if you get sent off in a game and leave your team a man down for over half an hour you’re invariably going be given a low rating – that’s how these things work.

Dishonourable mention

Trent Alexander-Arnold: 5/10

Once again, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s best position is a talking point in the aftermath of a Liverpool game.

Utilised as an inverted full-back once again, Alexander-Arnold once again left too much space vacated at right-back when he ventured into midfield and, when he was in midfield, his carelessness in possession led to Bournemouth taking a shock lead early on.

Not the best of his 200 Premier League outings in a Liverpool shirt.
