Man Utd make Aaron Wan-Bissaka contract decision

Manchester United have moved to trigger the 12-month extension in Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s contract, according to reports.

The Red Devils have been busy making decisions about their extension clauses in recent days and, late last month, triggered their option to tie centre-back Victor Lindelof down to 2025.

As first revealed by the Daily Mail, United have seemingly now done the same with Wan-Bissaka – the right-back’s previous deal had been due to expire at the end of the season but will now have 18 months left to run.

There are even said to be plans to hold talks over a brand new deal for Wan-Bissaka, who has made 15 appearances in all competitions this season and could now be in line for an increase to his current £90,000-a-week wages.

Young midfielder Hannibal Mejbri, whose deal also expires this summer, has held talks over a new deal and is expected to head out on loan this month.

While Lindelof and Wan-Bissaka are set to stay with United this summer, two players whose futures appear to be away from Old Trafford are centre-back Raphael Varane and striker Anthony Martial.

United declined to trigger the extension clause in Varane’s contract by the deadline of January 1, leaving the former Real Madrid defender free to negotiate a transfer overseas.

Similarly, United also decided against triggering the extension in the contract of Martial, who has struggled for minutes and is now set to walk away from the club after nine years on the books.

Goalkeeper Tom Heaton and centre-back Jonny Evans are also in the last six months of their contracts, as is loanee Sofyan Amrabat. United have already exercised the break clause in Sergio Reguilon’s loan deal, sending the 27-year-old back to Tottenham Hotspur after making 12 appearances.
