Manchester United vs Borussia Dortmund

Manchester United will conclude their pre-season tour of the United States with a friendly against Borussia Dortmund.

Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils have enjoyed a positive summer schedule so far, beating Leeds, Lyon and Arsenal before a youth team defeat to Wrexham and a 2-0 loss to Real Madrid.

United will take on a Borussia Dortmund side that finished second behind Bayern Munich in last season’s Bundesliga.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana made his first Man Utd appearance in the defeat to Real Madrid as the latest addition to their squad. Young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has left the touring party through injury, having impressed in earlier pre-season games.

Veteran defender Jonny Evans has stayed in the USA alongside Joe Hugill, with Ten Hag admitting a pressing need for squad depth with Fred not present and Anthony Elanga off to Nottingham Forest.

Manchester United predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Shaw; Mount, Casemiro; Antony, Fernandes, Sancho; Rashford.

Midfielder Marcel Sabitzer is in line to make his debut for Dortmund after sealing his move from Bayern Munich. The Austria international spent the second half of last season on loan at Old Trafford but a permanent deal didn’t materialise.

BVB fans will also hope to see fellow new signings Felix Nmecha and Ramy Bensebaini in action alongside regular goal-getters Marco Reus and Sebastien Haller.

Borussia Dortmun predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): Kobel; Meunier, Sule, Hummels, Ryerson; Can, Sabitzer; Malen, Brandt, Adeyemi; Haller.

Man Utd’s first-team pre-season friendlies have been remarkably unremarkable – aside from the Arsenal win which saw accusations of over-aggression slung from the Gunners’ camp.

Dortmund have trounced Westfalia Rhynern and San Diego Loyal and narrowly beaten a few other German sides, but Man Utd will comfortably provide their sternest test of the summer so far.

United’s more advanced preparation may help them secure a comfortable victory over their Bundesliga opposition.
