Newcastle’s return to the Champions League continues when they host Borussia Dortmund at St James’ Park on Wednesday.
The Magpies have put a stodgy start to the season firmly behind them and are currently enjoying an eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions. Their last outing in Europe saw Eddie Howe’s side put Paris Saint-Germain to the sword in a 4-1 victory.
Dortmund will have to do what PSG couldn’t and cancel out the fervent home atmosphere if they are to pick up their first UCL win of the campaign, having lost to the French champions and drawn with Italian giants AC Milan.

Newcastle‘s run of form is an imposing obstacle for Dortmund to overcome on Wednesday. The German side have shrunk at times in the Champions League and the hostile surroundings could make it tricky for Edin Terzic’s side to leave Tyneside with anything to show for their efforts.
The Magpies look to have acclimatised to European football well, blowing PSG away after a rather dull opening encounter with AC Milan, and another three points here would put Howe’s team in a promising position to qualify for the knockout stages.
A victory here would do wonders for Newcastle, especially with two big away days still to come, and they should keep this Dortmund side quiet while maintaining their unbeaten start in Europe.
