Pedri has named Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland as his ideal signing for Barcelona in the future.
Barca and Pedri have endured a tumultuous 2023/24 La Liga campaign to date. While Barcelona have struggled to mount a serious defence of their league title crown, Pedri has struggled to even get on the pitch at all – missing 13 games already due to recurring hamstring injuries.
Key to La Blaugrana’s problems this season has been Robert Lewandowski’s surprising frugality in front of the goal. Having fired Barca to the 2022/23 La Liga title by scoring scoring 23 goals, the veteran striker has managed just eight during the first half of the season and, as a result, the Catalan club are currently the lowest scoring team in the top four.
On a live stream with Ibai Llanos, Pedri was asked who his dream signing at Barcelona would be, replying that he’d be keen to see Erling Haaland join the club once Lewandowski hangs up his boots.
“For Barca I would sign Haaland,” he said. “He’s a cyborg. He scores a lot of goals. Lewandowski is not going to last until he is 60. Julian Alvarez is also playing very well, ‘the spider’, he’s a very good player.”
Haaland has been in stunning form at Man City since joining the club in June 2022, breaking the single-season Premier League goalscoring record as the club won the treble last season. Unlike Lewandowski, Haaland has also continued his 2022/23 form into the current campaign, scoring an impressive 19 goals in 22 games in all competitions thus far.
While Haaland would be Pedri’s ideal replacement for Lewandowski, Barcelona have already forked out €40m to secure the services of young striker Vitor Roque.
The 18-year-old is set to join the club in 2024 having thoroughly impressed Athletico Paranaense in Brazil in recent seasons.
