Portland Timbers extend winning streak after 3-2 triumph over Colorado Rapids

The Portland Timbers appear to be hitting their stride at the right time with interim head coach Miles Joseph in the dugout as the MLS regular season winds down.

The Timbers parted ways with head coach Giovanni Savarese just over a month ago, but since then, they’ve lost only once in seven games played.

Joseph’s first game in charge came against Vancouver Whitecaps, where his team fell in a narrow defeat, 3-2. However, since that loss on August 26, Portland has gone on an unbeaten run of six games, winning five out of six, and riding a four-game winning streak.

The string of positive results see the Timbers surge up to sixth place in the Western Conference table with 42 points from 31 games played.

As Portland last lost on a 3-2 scoreline, it’s only fitting that their most recent triumph came also on a 3-2 scoreline.

A 71st minute strike from Felipe Mora, his fourth of the campaign, saw the Timbers pull out a close 3-2 victory over Colorado Rapids, who continue to trend in the opposite direction with growing fan frustation.

In the Timbers’ impressive unbeaten run, they’ve scored twice in all of their games, finding the back of the net 13 times in total while conceding seven times.

Next up for Joseph’s side is a trip out west to take on LA Galaxy, who are in the midst of their own late-season playoff push, at Dignity Health Sports Park on September 30.
