Power Rankings: The best teams in Europe – Week 10

Following a week in which:

– Manchester City continued to be weirdly bad.

– Aston Villa continued to be weirdly good.

– And Real Madrid continued to weirdly win all their games despite having 90% of the squad injured.

We at 90min are back ranking the top ten teams in Europe right now.

VfB Stuttgart, PSG

Yes, Serhou Guirassy is still scoring goals for fun for VfB Stuttgart. The forward netted his 17th goal in 12 games to help his team to a DFB-Pokal win over Borussia Dortmund and get them on our radar again heading into the Christmas period.

While Paris Saint-Germain have been pretty dross in the UEFA Champions League, they are winning games happily in Ligue 1 as expected. Luis Enrique’s side have won their last seven on the bounce in the league, opening up a four-point gap at the top of the table as a result.

Manchester City, Atletico Madrid, OGC Nice

Manchester City are without a win in their last four Premier League games. Yep, you read that right. They’ll sort it out soon enough, but they’re out of our Power Rankings until they do.

In La Liga, Atletico Madrid missed a huge chance to firmly assert themselves in the title race, falling rather timidly to Barcelona at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys. And over in Ligue 1, OGC Nice did something similar by losing to Nantes.

By hook or by crook, Juventus have managed to stay within touching distance of Serie A leaders Inter in recent weeks.

Juve have won five of their last six games by a solitary goal, with said winning goal against Monza coming in added time through Federico Gatti.

It’s not pretty, but it’s working.

Back to winning ways over the weekend, Girona saw off Valencia thanks to a brace from Cristhian Stuani to make it seven games on the bounce without defeat.

Amazingly they’re joint level on points with Real Madrid after 15 games of the season.

PSV Eindhoven’s 2023/24 Eredivisie season so far:

Played: 14
Won: 14
Draw: 0
Lost: 0

Yep, they’re very, very good.

Of course Joao Felix scored against Atletico Madrid. Of course he did.

The goal was an important one too, with Barcelona keeping in touch with La Liga pace-setters Real Madrid and Girona as a result of the 1-0 win.

It happened.

It finally happened.

Bayer Leverkusen finally dropped points in the Bundesliga.

Their draw with Borussia Dortmund put an end to a 15-game win streak in all competitions.

As you can see from the image above, Bayern Munich‘s game against Union Berlin was postponed at the weekend thanks to a tonne of snow in Bavaria.

Basically everyone in the world thought that Aston Villa’s run of 11 straight home wins would come to an end when 2022/23 treble winners Manchester City rocked up in Birmingham on Wednesday.

Unai Emery’s side had other plans though.

Instead they went out and beat City 1-0 thanks to a Leon Bailey goal, and leapfrogged them in the Premier League table in the process.

Honestly, it’s almost impressive that Steven Gerrard had this Aston Villa team on the brink of relegation last season.

While Juve were struggling to get over the line against Monza at the weekend, Inter were busy thumping title holders SSC Napoli.

Inter put Napoli to the sword at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, winning 3-0 thanks to goals from Hakan Calhanoglu, Nicolo Barella and Marcus Thuram.

Real Madrid’s injury list includes: Vinicius Junior, Thibuat Courtois, Luka Modric, Eduardo Camavinga, Eder Militao, Aurelien Tchouameni and Arda Guler.

Any normal football team would not be able to cope without those players, but Madrid notably aren’t a normal football team.

Despite all those stars in the treatment room, Madrid are currently enjoying a run over five wins on the bounce.

Sure, it was only Luton Town, but one can’t deny Arsenal’s title credentials after their dramatic comeback victory on Tuesday evening.

That 4-3 win was their sixth win in a row in all competitions and has seen them open up a two-point lead atop the Premier League table.
