PSG president makes huge claim over Kylian Mbappe’s future

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has claimed Kylian Mbappe will still be part of the team beyond the end of this current season.

Mbappe has already confirmed that he does not plan to trigger the 12-month extension in his current contract, which will expire next summer. He was transfer-listed during pre-season but has since returned to the team.

PSG have not yet given up hope of keeping Mbappe and hope to tie the superstar forward down to a new contract, whereas Real Madrid are waiting to make him the biggest free transfer in history.

90min understands Mbappe has repeatedly stressed that he does not plan to sign an extension, but in a recent interview with Meczyki, Al-Khelaifi insisted Mbappe’s time in Paris will not end this summer.

Asked whether Mbappe will have at least one more season with PSG after the current campaign, Al-Khelaifi responded: “Kylian Mbappe is a PSG player. He loves this club. He’s a fantastic player. He’s the best in the world. We are happy to have him and we will have him!”

Al-Khelaifi, chairman of the European Club Association, also took the opportunity to argue he is not “at war” with either Barcelona or Real Madrid over their continued determination to create a European Super League.

“These clubs themselves know that I never mention their names – even on the board in a more private setting,” he said. “I always tell them and advise them that they can return to ECA at any time. Join the family. They are welcome. Juventus has already withdrawn from the Super League project. They should do the same. They have no other choice.

“I’m not against Barcelona or Real Madrid. I’m not going to exclude anyone. I am against conflict and fighting. I met with [Barcelona president] Joan Laporta and told him the same thing. If they want to fight, they fight among themselves.

“We won’t waste any more time on this. We have our own things to do. We want to develop, and the Super League is a joke today. It was dead before it was actually announced. “
