PSG vs Newcastle – Champions League: TV channel, team news, lineups and prediction

Newcastle United need to return with points from their trip to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night as a hotly-contested Group F nears its conclusion.

The Magpies were on top of the world after their memorable Champions League triumph over the French giants on Matchday 2, but they’ve since been brought back down to Earth. Consecutive defeats at the hands of Borussia Dortmund have left Newcastle bottom of Group F, although they are just three points adrift of leaders Dortmund.

PSG, meanwhile, had a great chance to take full control of the group on Matchday 4 only to be beaten by Milan at San Siro. The capital club still have plenty of work to do if they’re to progress into the knockout stages.

Here’s 90min’s preview of the upcoming Champions League group stage bout between PSG and Newcastle.

PSG were dealt a big blow over the international break as Warren Zaire-Emery picked up an ankle injury which will keep him out for the rest of 2023.

Presnel Kimpembe has returned to training after recovering from a devastating Achilles injury, but it remains to be seen when he’ll make his comeback. With Marquinhos nursing a hamstring injury, Milan Skriniar and Lucas Hernandez should retain their places at the heart of Luis Enrique’s defence.

PSG predicted lineup vs Newcastle (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Hakimi, Skriniar, Hernandez, Mukiele; Ugarte, Fabian, Vitinha; Dembele, Kolo Muani, Mbappe.

The majority of Newcastle’s current injury absences are going to be out of action for the remainder of the year.

Jacob Murphy, Dan Burn, and young midfielder Elliot Anderson won’t feature again until 2024. The likes of Callum Wilson, Sven Botman, and Harvey Barnes could return around Christmas time.

Sean Longstaff missed the victory over Chelsea with a hamstring injury and is a doubt for Wednesday’s game. If the Englishman isn’t fit, teenager Lewis Miley could keep his place in the starting XI.

Newcastle predicted lineup vs PSG (4-3-3): Pope; Trippier, Lascelles, Schar, Livramento; Longstaff, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Almiron, Isak, Gordon.

Injuries were seemingly taking their toll on Newcastle before the break, but they returned to action with an emphatic victory over Chelsea at the weekend.

However, they won’t have a fervent St James’ Park behind them on Tuesday as they face a PSG side that purred during their 5-2 victory over title rivals Monaco on Friday night. They’ve had the odd hiccup, but Enrique’s side are starting to look like a very formidable outfit and they’re typically tough to overcome on home soil in this competition.

While an injury-plagued Newcastle were able to overwhelm Chelsea, Enrique’s PSG at the Parc des Princes are a different beast. The Spaniard surely would’ve learned a few lessons from the reverse fixture, too.

Prediction: PSG 3-1 Newcastle
