Rasmus Hojlund reveals what makes ‘generational talent’ Kobbie Mainoo so special

Rasmus Hojlund gushed over Man Utd teammate and ‘generational talent’ Kobbie Mainoo after the dramatic 4-3 victory at Wolves on Thursday night.

The Red Devils looked to have thrown away 2-0 and 3-1 leads when Pedro Neto levelled the scores in the 94th minute, the visitors having struck through Marcus Rashford, Hojlund and Scott McTominay.

However, emerging star Mainoo slalomed past a couple of Wanderers challenges and curled the winner into the bottom corner, bagging his first Premier League goal after netting in the FA Cup at Newport County last weekend.

The 18-year-old started alongside Casemiro in midfield in a Man Utd team close to full strength and received praise from summer signing Hojlund after the thrilling encounter at Molineux.

The Dane said: “We have a generational talent in Kobbie Mainoo. You can see his composure, he is so relaxed on the ball. So much quality on the ball. Now he’s also starting to show that he has the scoring parts of his game as well. He’s a complete player.

“It’s not about taking the responsibility, he’s so relaxed, so calm, he knows his quality and he knows when he goes out there he’s going to perform. Everybody knows that from the team and you guys can see it as well now. He’s a top player.”

He added: “We enjoy things, spending time outside together. Us young guys, we have a little group and we’re chatting to each other. It’s very cool to have other young players around the team and hopefully we can set an era for the club and be here many years together.

“If you’re good enough, you’re old enough and I think that’s a good thing. We’re here for a reason.”

Mainoo impressed during Man Utd’s pre-season tour before an injury left him sidelined until November. All eight of his Premier League appearances this season have come as starts, with Erik ten Hag’s side seventh after the win at Wolves.

They have the opportunity to move into sixth on Sunday when they host West Ham United, who currently sit a point ahead after their latest draw with Bournemouth.
