Paris Saint-Germain come into their Ligue 1 clash with Rennes on Sunday off the back of what can only be described as a humiliation in the Champions League at the hands of Newcastle United.
Luis Enrique’s side were soundly beaten 4-1 at St James’ Park and their league form doesn’t offer much of a reprieve. PSG sit fifth before the weekend’s action, two points away from Monaco at the summit.
Rennes are just one point behind and one of only two unbeaten sides left in Ligue 1. That only tells half the story, though, as they have drawn five of their first seven matches.
Here’s all you need to know about Rennes vs PSG in Ligue 1 this weekend as the visitors chase a much-needed three points.

Until recently, Rennes had some pretty serious injury concerns but important players were welcomed back during the Europa League defeat against Villarreal on Thursday night.
Talented midfielder Enzo Le Fee came off the bench while Martin Terrier was also introduced from the bench after recovering from an ACL injury. There is a chance manager Bruno Genesio will allow Arnaud Kalimuendo to take on his former club.
Rennes predicted lineup vs PSG (4-3-3): Mandanda; Doue, Omari, Theate, Truffert; Bourigeaud, Matic, Le Fee; Blas, Kalimuendo, Salah.
PSG have had plenty of injuries to work around but it does not excuse the form they have produced so far this season.
Sergio Rico, Nuno Mendes and Marco Asensio all remain out injured, while forward Lee Kang-in is also absent as he is playing with the South Korea Under-23s at the Hangzhou Asian Games in China. Presnel Kimpembe is back in training but may not feature here.
There was a change of shape to more of a 4-2-3-1 against Newcastle, but Enrique is expected to ditch that experiment as he seeks a less eventful match that ends with three points at Rennes.
PSG predicted lineup vs Rennes (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Skriniar, Hernandez; Zaire-Emery, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz; Dembele, Kolo Muani, Mbappe.
Both of these teams know how to score goals and were in European action during the week. Rennes have been specialists in draws so far this season, as nobody has as many in Ligue 1.
Given PSG seem very mentally fragile right now and Rennes will know there is a chance to continue their good recent results over the French champions, this could easily end up being a scoring draw in Brittany.
Prediction: Rennes 2-2 PSG
