Ryan Gravenberch names next target in impressive Liverpool start

Ryan Gravenberch says he is keen to score his first Premier League goal, having impressed in the early stages of his Liverpool career.

After a season stuck on the bench with former club Bayern Munich, the 21-year-old is becoming a more important member of Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI and has scored twice in his first 11 appearances for the Reds.

However, those goals have come against Union Saint-Gilloise and Toulouse in the Europa League and the Netherlands international has admitted striking in the English top flight is his next target.

“I need one!” he told Premier League Productions. “And I will make one for sure, I hope.

“I’m here now for a few weeks. It’s still early days but I’m feeling good, everything is sorted and everything is good.

“It’s been very good for me, to be fair. I made a good start, I’m very happy about that. And the home games with Liverpool, the atmosphere, to be honest it’s amazing. I’m just happy.”

Gravenberch may hope that first Premier League goal comes on Sunday with the in-form Reds travelling to take on relegation zone dwellers Luton at Kenilworth Road. However, he faces competition from Curtis Jones for a starting XI spot.

Speaking with Viaplay Sport Nederland recently, Gravenberch also revealed he has been happier with manager Klopp’s approach at Liverpool than the silent treatment he received at Bayern.

He added: “When Klopp called, he gave me his plan and then things went quite quickly.

“That was really the most important thing I wanted.”

Asked if Klopp keeps his playing time promises better than Bayern, he laughed: “Actually, yes!”

Gravenberch’s impressive form at Ajax earned him a five-year contract at Bayern in 2022 but he started only five games across the Bundesliga and Champions League combined, coming off the bench 21 times in Germany’s top flight.
