St Louis CITY sign head coach Bradley Carnell to new contract

St Louis CITY have signed head coach Bradley Carnell to a contract extension following his side’s impressive first season in Major League Soccer.

Carnell’s CITY made headlines in their inaugural 2023, season, finishing atop the Western Conference with 56 points from 34 games played. St Louis had to fend off the likes of LAFC and Seattle Sounders to finish in first place in their division.

Carnell amassed a 17W-5D-12L in the regular season, as only Orlando City and Supporters’ Shield winners FC Cincinnati won more games during the campaign with 18 and 20, respectively.

“We’re thrilled to be able to extend Bradley’s contract and keep him and his family here with us in St. Louis,” St Louis president and general manager DIego Gigliani said in a relase.

“His leadership helped us achieve record-breaking results on the pitch and quickly established CITY SC as a club serious about building a winning tradition for our fans. We look forward to our future with Bradley leading the squad.”

St Louis scored 62 goals during the regular season under Carnell, the third most in the league behind Atlanta United and MLS Cup winners Columbus Crew. Carnell was able to rely on the likes of Joao Klauss (10) Nicholas Gioacchini (10) and Samuel Adeniran (eight) to find the back of the net to propel his side up the Western Conference standings.

“I want to say thank you to Lutz, Diego, Carolyn and the ownership group for believing in me to help lead this project and continue from a successful Year 1,” Carnell added.

“I am excited to continue working with the STL group. My family and I love the St. Louis area and can’t wait to build on top of the strong foundation that was built.”

St Louis’ MLS Cup playoffs aspirations came to screeching halt in the first round at the hands of rivals Sporting Kansas City, as they were swept 2-0 in November.

Carnell and St Louis will look to repeat their regular season success in the new season while reaching new heights in the postseason. The Western Conference side kick-off their 2024 season on February 20 in the Concacaf Champions Cup against fellow MLS opposition Houston Dynamo before embarking on the regular season vs Real Salt Late on February 24.
