The best duos in Premier League history

The Premier League has been home to some of the greatest footballers in history throughout the last three decades.

Luckily for some Premier League fans, they’ve had the pleasure of watching some of these players play alongside one another at their favourites clubs.

Here’s our pick for the five best partnerships in the league’s history.

Sure, Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge didn’t play together for very long, but at the peak of their powers together they were truly unstoppable.

In the 2013/14 season, Suarez and Sturridge combined for a remarkable 52 league goals and finished first and second in the Premier League goalscoring charts – the first time the top two had ever come from the same club.

It was certainly fun while it lasted.

The most prolific strike partnership in Premier League history.

Kane and Son broke the record for most goal combinations back in February, and by the time the former left for Bayern Munich this summer, they’d combined an astonishing 47 times – 11 more than any other pair.

While Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand were Manchester United’s starting centre-back partnership, the club won five Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League, one FIFA Club World Cup and three Carabao Cups.

That’s a lot of winning.

It is rather amazing that arguably the two most technically talented footballers in the league’s history were at the peak of their powers at the same time while playing for the same club.

Henry and Bergkamp won three PFA Players’ Player of the Year awards between them at Arsenal, and were so good that both have been honoured with statues outside of the Emirates Stadium.

Son and Kane have the most goal combinations, Sturridge and Suarez are the only partnership to finished first and second in the goalscoring charts, but if you seen Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney play together you’ll know exactly why they’re top of this list.

The Rooney – Ronaldo combo was exciting and effective in equal measure, and was the reason the mid-200s were some of the most successful years in Man Utd’s history.
