Top 90: The best players in the Premier League

It’s fairly common knowledge at this point that the Premier League is, by quite a distance, the best league in the world.

The league is home to the European champions, teams who can spend a combined £1.5bn on new players this summer, the best manager possibly of all time (Pep Guardiola), and – perhaps most importantly – the best footballers in the world.

Ahead of the 2023/24 season we at 90min thought we’d have a crack at predicting who the top 90 players will be in the Premier League next season.

Here’s the rankings from 20-11:

A brilliant signing

Club: Liverpool
Position: Midfielder

Liverpool nabbing a player of Alexis Mac Allister’s calibre for a reported initial £35m fee is rather hard to believe.

And yet, amazingly, it actually happened.

The World Cup winner is going to be a star at Anfield.

A big season ahead

Club: Arsenal
Position: Wide forward

Coming off the back of a season in which he scored a career best 15 league goals, Arsenal fans fully expect 22-year-old Gabriel Martinelli to continue his development into a truly world class player during the 2023/24 campaign.

He has certainly has the ability to become one.

The new captain

Club: Liverpool
Position: Defender

The new Liverpool captain is arguably one of the greatest signings in Premier League history.

Now entering the latter stages of his career, while not the behemoth he once was, there’s still very few centre-backs better than Van Dijk in the league.

Grealish impressed last season

Club: Manchester City
Position: Wide forward

Jack Grealish’s first season at Manchester City was a disaster.

Jack Grealish’s second season at Manchester City was a triumph.

Jack Grealish’s third season at Manchester City? The safe money is on another triumph.

The new false nine

Club: Liverpool
Position: Forward

Signed as a wide forward initially, Cody Gakpo truly found his feet at Liverpool when Jurgen Klopp opted to utilse him as a false nine.

Now firmly the number one option at the heart of the Reds’ talented forward line, the Dutch international is set to have a career best campaign at Anfield.

The new signing

Club: Manchester United
Position: Goalkeeper

Gone are the day when Manchester United fans see the ball roll back to their goalkeeper and they collectively think ‘oh nooooo’.

Now they’ll say ‘this is fine’ because the ball will be rolling back to Andre Onana, who is one of the best ball-playing goalkeepers in the world. A potentially game-changing signing for the Red Devils.

British record signing

Club: Arsenal
Position: Midfielder

A British record and club record signing, Declan Rice was the exact footballer that Arsenal need to sign in order to have a genuine chance of toppling Manchester City.

The England international brings dynamism to the Gunners midfield that they simply haven’t had in at least a decade.

World class

Club: Manchester United
Position: Midfielder

In order to win five UEFA Champions Leagues you have to be a pretty damn good footballer.

And Casemiro is a pretty damn good footballer.

The holding midfielder has instilled a winning mentality into a previously spineless Man Utd midfield.

Back fully fit

Club: Arsenal
Position: Defender

Saliba’s season-ending injury will go down as the sliding doors moment of the 2022/23 season. Had he not been injured, Arsenal may have gone to win the Premier League title.

This season, Gunners fans will be praying their talismanic centre back stays fit.

Treble winner

Club: Manchester City
Position: Defender

Back to full fitness and back to his very, very best, Ruben Dias has reasserted himself as the best defender in the Premier League over the last 12 months.

A truly brilliant centre-back.
