Top five players in MLS’ 2023 22 under 22 – ranked

Major League Soccer and BodyArmor’s 2023 edition of the 22 under 22 list features plenty of talented players destined for stardom in the coming years.

For a third consecutive year, FC Dallas leads with another top talent at number one, but Inter Miami and the San Jose earthquakes are not far behind when it comes to stars.

Here are the fop five players from the 2023 22 under 22 list…

At just 19-years-old, Cade Cowell already has over 100 appearances for San Jose Earthquakes at the senior level, notching 10 goals and dishing out 15 assists.

With Cowell, it seems to be a matter of when than if when it comes to a potential transfer abroad, and San Jose will hope to compete in the playoffs with the young forward alongside Cristian Espinoza in the meantime.

Somehow Chicago Fire have been able to fend off European interest for midfielder Brian Gutierrez as the youngster approaches 100 appearances for the Eastern Conference team.

Gutierrez put pen to paper last September on a new contract through the 2026 MLS season, and the Fire will need him if they are to return to the postseason for the first time since 2017.

Benja Cremaschi made his MLS debut in February, and he hasn’t looked back since.

The Miami, Florida, native has proved that he can play almost anywhere in the middle of the park as well as taking up space on the wider areas of the field if needed. With his clutch ability in penalty shootouts and more eyes on the south Florida club, the Herons will hope to keep hold of him as long as possible.

Aidan Morris has established himself as a top up-and-coming midfielder in the US men’s national team, as he’s made four appearances already and took part in the 2023 Gold Cup with the Stars and Stripes.

In MLS, Morris has already made 75 appearances across all competitions for Columbus Crew and continues to steadily improve alongside veteran Darlington Nagbe.

FC Dallas are experts at nurturing young talent in their academy system.

Whether it be Ricardo Pepi or Jesus Ferreira, the Western Conference team know how to help young players improve, and it’s no different with the versatile Alan Velasco. Since Velasco joined ahead of the 2022 season from Independiente, he’s been a key cog in Dallas’ plans going forward alongside Ferreira.
