Tottenham’s next six fixtures after Premier League opener against Brentford

The Ange Postecoglou era is underway at Tottenham Hotspur.

While Harry Kane’s switch to Bavaria did much to dash the initial optimism that had sprouted from the Australian’s appointment, the early signs suggest Spurs will be just fine in the absence of, arguably, their greatest-ever player.

A visit to Brentford certainly wasn’t the easiest of starts given the Bees stellar form on home soil, but Spurs duked out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday.

Here’s the entertaining schedule that lies ahead for Tottenham.

It’s not the simplest of home debuts for the new Spurs boss, who’ll oversee his first Premier League game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Manchester United.

Erik ten Hag’s first visit to the Lilywhite side of north London ended without victory amid a rather confused period for Spurs at the end of 2022/23.

The Dutchman, buoyed by the arrivals of a goalscorer and a goalkeeper competent in possession, is hoping to oversee a big leap in year two, but it remains to be seen whether United have the capacity for a title challenge.

This is bound to be a cracker.

The Andoni Iraola era got off to a rather indifferent start on the opening weekend as Bournemouth came from behind to draw 1-1 at home to West Ham United.

The Spaniard’s ideals should make the Cherries an intriguing watch, but there’s an element of boom or bust about the former Rayo Vallecano boss. His side could punch well above their weight, but it also wouldn’t be a surprise if he’s out of the job by Christmas.

Early points are crucial for any new manager, and both will fancy their chances of picking three up here.

Tottenham’s perpetual participation in one of UEFA’s club competitions has previously offered the club a bye into the third round of the EFL Cup. However, a dreadful 2022/23 campaign left Spurs without European football this season and they were thus a part of the competition’s second-round draw.

Spurs weren’t exactly dealt a soft hand either. While a whole host of lower league clubs were available, Postecoglou’s side were instead paired with Premier League outfit Fulham, who they’ll face at Craven Cottage with a third-round spot at stake.

Ange’s men are on the road for a third-straight game as they open up September with a trip to Turf Moor.

Vincent Kompany’s Burnley are unlike any previous iterations of the Clarets that we’ve seen in the Premier League. Although they were eventually swatted aside by Manchester City on opening night, the second-tier champions showed that they’re going to be very competitive this season.

Scalps of Tottenham’s calibre shouldn’t be beyond Kompany’s side.

The new boss will have to wait a couple more weeks until he returns to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium thanks to the September international break.

Upon their return, Spurs face another newly-promoted side in Sheffield United at home. While Tottenham have had some success against the Sheffield club in the recent past, previous contests with the Blades have also come with the addition of melancholy.

Mauricio Pochettino oversaw his final game in charge of Spurs against Sheffield United in the pouring rain, while a defeat at Bramall Lane in the FA Cup last season was a poignant depiction of Tottenham’s demise under Antonio Conte.

Supporters will be pleading for sunshine and rainbows in this mid-September clash.

Tottenham’s two defeats to Mikel Arteta’s rising Arsenal were among the limpest in north London derby history. Conte’s side couldn’t get near the ever-evolving Gunners as they fell to 3-1 and 2-0 defeats in the Premier League.

Invigorated by the arrival of Ange, however, Spurs will not be such a pushover this time around. While Tottenham have struggled mightily at the Emirates since its opening, should they string together a few results early on under their new boss, the Lilywhites will be oozing with confidence heading into the away NLD.

However, they won’t be able to cash in their token Harry Kane penalty this time around.
