Union Saint-Gilloise vs Liverpool – Europa League: TV channel, team news, lineups and prediction

Jurgen Klopp will be hoping Thursday night’s trip to Union Saint-Gilloise is the last Europa League group fixture of his Liverpool tenure.

Despite falling to a 3-2 defeat in Toulouse on matchday four, Group E has otherwise been a procession for the Reds, and victory over LASK last time out saw the Premier League side confirm their place in the round of 16.

They’ll wrap up their group campaign against a USG side that have a slim chance of progressing in second spot. The Belgian outfit must beat Liverpool on Thursday and hope Toulouse slip up against LASK. A third-place finish and a spot in the Europa Conference League playoffs is also at stake.

Here’s 90min’s preview of Liverpool’s Europa League clash in Brussels.

The Belgian side have a clean bill of health, although they will be without the suspended Charles Vanhoutte. The midfielder picked up his third yellow card of the group stage in the draw with Toulouse.

Lazare Amani could replace Vanhoutte in the starting XI.

Union Saint-Gilloise predicted lineup vs Liverpool (3-4-3): Moris; Mac Allister, Burgess, Machida; Castro-Montes, Rasmussen, Amani, Lapoussen; Amoura, Rodriguez, Puertas.

Alisson returned to the starting lineup at the weekend, but Caoimhín Kelleher will get the nod in midweek.

Joel Matip picked up a long-term knee injury in the 4-3 win over Fulham and will miss the rest of the season. With Klopp short of centre-back options, Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez should start at the heart of Liverpool’s defence.

Diogo Jota, Andy Robertson, Stefan Bajcetic, and Thiago Alcantara all remain out, while Alexis Mac Allister will be preserved for Sunday’s game against Man Utd.

Liverpool predicted lineup vs Union Saint-Gilloise (4-3-3): Kelleher; Bradley, Gomez, Quansah, Tsimikas; Endo, Elliott, Jones; Doak, Gakpo, Nunez.

Liverpool‘s rotated XI haven’t had too many issues in this competition, although they won’t have the comfort of Anfield on Thursday night.

The Reds were forced to come from behind against LASK on Matchday 1 and they were beaten in France, so there’s certainly a chance for Union Saint-Gilloise to cause an upset. The Belgian side need the points to keep their European hopes alive, but the Reds could work hard enough for a point.

Prediction: Union Saint-Gilloise 1-1 Liverpool
