Why is Nottingham Forest vs Sheffield United on Friday night but not TV?

It’s a big early season contest for both Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United as they face off at the City Ground.

Steve Cooper overcame plenty of adversity to keep Forest in the Premier League last season, with their home form critical to their survival. Sheffield United, meanwhile, earned promotion back into the top flight after finishing second in the Championship, but many have tipped the Blades to go straight back down as a result of their summer business.

The two sides were beaten on opening weekend, with Forest losing 2-1 at Arsenal while Crystal Palace beat Sheffield Utd 1-0 at Bramall Lane.

Paul Heckingbottom will undoubtedly be concerned about his side’s prospects this season, and it already feels as if he might need to get a result on Friday given their upcoming schedule.

Forest take on Sheffield United at the City Ground on Friday 18 August with kick-off scheduled for 19:45.

The two sides were initially set to clash on Saturday 19 August, but the contest has been put forward a day due to a big day of cricket taking place down the road from the City Ground at Trent Bridge.

The Trent Rockets take on the Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred on Saturday – with men’s and women’s games taking place from 11:00 (BST) and concluding at roughly (17:00). Fears over heavy congestion in Nottingham thus moved Forest’s home game against the Blades to Friday night.

However, as there was no designated TV slot for the game, it will not be televised in the UK on Friday night.

Don’t fear, football fans, there’s plenty of football to enjoy beyond the Premier League bout.

From 19:30 (BST), Sky subscribers can enjoy Harry Kane’s Bundesliga debut as Bayern Munich take on Werder Bremen. Leeds United also face West Bromwich Albion live on Sky Sports in an intriguing Championship bout.

LaLiga TV hosts a pair of games with Mallorca taking on Villarreal (18:30) and Valencia hosting Las Palmas (20:30). TNT Sports 2 is broadcasting the Ligue 1 bout between Metz and Marseille which will get underway at 20:00.
