Xavi reveals how Barcelona plan to beat Real Madrid in Supercopa Clasico

Xavi says Barcelona will try to “dominate” Real Madrid in the Supercopa de Espana final by going “toe to toe” with Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Thursday’s 2-0 win over Osasuna saw Barcelona book their place in the final against Madrid, who saw off Atletico Madrid 5-3 on Wednesday.

It’s a repeat of last season’s final, which Barcelona ended up winning 3-1. Xavi’s side won the two Clasicos that followed but have watched Madrid celebrate victory in the last two meetings between these sides, including a 2-1 triumph at Camp Nou in October.

Despite Barcelona’s unconvincing form, Xavi insisted he is confident the team has what it takes to beat Madrid.

“Our methodology, our way of playing, the team we have and the way we compete against Madrid,” Xavi offered up as reasons for his confidence.

“The example to follow is last year’s final when we won 3-1. We were much better. And despite losing to Madrid in La Liga this season, we also played well until the 60th minute. We feel we could have got more from the game.

“We have to take the ball from Madrid and our DNA must shine through more than ever. Madrid are in better form than last year, but we will try to dominate them and play toe-to-toe.

“It’s the ideal setting and moment for us to show our best football. We are up for it.”

Xavi confirmed midfielder Pedri is in contention to start the final after impressing off the bench against Osasuna, but Brazilian winger Raphinha will require further checks after picking up a knock on Thursday.
