Fox joined Bobby Orr as the only two players in NHL history to win the award before their third NHL season.
He spent two seasons in the United States National Team Development Program, setting records for most assists in a single season (in 2015-16) and most assists in a career (in 2014-16). He played collegiate ice hockey at Harvard University, where he led all NCAA defensemen in assists and points his freshman season and led all defensemen in points per game and assists his junior season. Calgary transferred Fox’s NHL rights to the Carolina Hurricanes in June 2018, who then moved them to the New York Rangers in April 2019. He graduated from college a year early and made his NHL debut in 2019 with the Rangers.

Early Life
Adam Fox was born and raised in Jericho, New York, where he developed a passion for hockey. His father was a New York Rangers season ticket holder, and he attended games as a child. He played in various sports, including hockey, soccer, and lacrosse, during his high school years.
Early Career
He began his hockey journey with the Long Island Gulls of the Atlantic Youth Hockey League. He played two seasons (2014-2016) in the U.S. National Team Development Program (USNTDP) and set records for assists and points by a defenseman. He was named the Best Defenseman at the 2016 IIHF World U18 Championships and earned a bronze medal with Team USA.
College Career
He attended Harvard University, majoring in psychology. Fox made an immediate impact, leading all NCAA defensemen in assists and points during his freshman season. He was named 2017 ECAC Rookie of the Year and Ivy League Rookie of the Year. Fox helped Harvard win the Beanpot and reach the Frozen Four in his freshman season. He achieved outstanding statistics throughout his college career, setting multiple records for assists and points by a defenseman. He was one of the named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, received the 2019 Walter Brown Award, and was an Academic All-Ivy honoree.
Professional Career
He was drafted 66th overall by the Calgary Flames in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Calgary traded his NHL rights to the Carolina Hurricanes in 2018, but he did not sign with the team.
Traded to the New York Rangers in 2019, where he signed an entry-level contract. Fox made his NHL debut in October 2019 and had a successful rookie season, ranking among the top rookie defensemen in various statistical categories. In the 2020-21 season, Fox won the James Norris Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s best defenseman, becoming only the second player in history to win it before his third NHL season. Later he signed a seven-year, $66.5 million contract extension with the Rangers in November 2021, where he continues to excel as a key player for the Rangers and was a Norris Trophy finalist for the 2022-23 season.
International Play
Fox represented the United States at the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in 2017 and 2018, winning a gold medal in 2017 and a bronze in 2018.
