Janet Protasiewicz initially gained recognition for her active participation in protests against Wisconsin Act 10, a measure that restricted collective bargaining rights for unions in the state.
Her first foray into public office occurred in 2013 when she ran for a Milwaukee County circuit judge position against the incumbent, Rebecca Bradley. Although Bradley emerged victorious, Protasiewicz garnered a respectable 47% of the vote.
In 2014, seizing an opportunity as another Milwaukee County judge retired, Protasiewicz ran for the open seat and secured victory without opposition. She was subsequently re-elected to the circuit court bench without opposition in 2020.
In her role as a circuit judge, Protasiewicz has presided over a diverse array of cases, including those related to domestic violence, drug offenses, and felonies.
Currently assigned to family court, she has built a reputation for her compassionate and equitable approach to cases involving child custody, divorce, and child support.
Janet Protasiewicz is an active member of the Wisconsin State Bar and the Milwaukee Bar Association, recognized for her professionalism and unwavering dedication to public service.
