Hanaan Shahin, mom of Wadea Al-Fayoume, boy killed in alleged unincorp. Plainfield hate crime, to speak out Wednesday

PLAINFIELD, Ill. (WLS) — The mother of a Plainfield boy killed in an apparent act of hate is expected to share her story at a press conference Wednesday morning.

Hanan Shahin, 32, is set to publicly speak for the first time after her six-year-old son, Wadea Al-Fayoume, was stabbed to death, allegedly by their landlord in Plainfield on October 14.

Shahin has retained nationally renowned civil right attorney Ben Crump.

According to the Chicago Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Shahin says Al-Fayoume was “her best friend.” She is “praying for peace”…and “harbors no hatred…but believes in the pursuit of justice.”

The Will County Sheriff’s Office said 71-year-old Joseph Czuba allegedly stabbed Al-Fayoume 26 times and his mother more than a dozen because they were Muslim.
