Huddersfield Town vs Rotherham United: EFL Championship

After the recent international break, two teams with four points each at the lower end of the Championship table are set to face off on Saturday. Huddersfield Town will host their Yorkshire rivals, Rotherham United, at the John Smith’s Stadium. Both sides secured their first league wins of the season in their last matches before the break, following a run of just one point from the opening four games of the second-tier season.

Huddersfield Town, led by 74-year-old manager Neil Warnock, narrowly avoided relegation in the previous Championship season. In the 2023-24 campaign, their primary focus remained on staying in the second tier. However, they had a slow start, losing their first two league games to Plymouth Argyle and Leicester City, along with an early exit from the EFL Cup at the hands of Middlesbrough. Their first point came in a 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough, but they suffered a 4-0 defeat to Norwich City in August. Seeking their first win, they faced West Bromwich Albion and initially looked set for a 1-1 draw, only for Jack Rudoni to score a dramatic injury-time winner. Now, after the international break, they aim to secure a second consecutive victory.

Rotherham United, led by manager Matt Taylor, share the same goal as Huddersfield Town: securing their place in the Championship. Last season, under Taylor’s guidance, Rotherham finished 19th with 50 points. They began this season with a disappointing 4-1 loss to Stoke City. Despite narrowly advancing in the EFL Cup against Morecambe, they were held to a frustrating draw against Blackburn Rovers after taking a 2-0 lead. Subsequent 2-1 defeats to Sunderland and Leicester City, along with a humbling 6-1 loss to Stoke City in the EFL Cup, marked their struggles. However, they bounced back with a 2-1 victory over Norwich City, aiming to continue their momentum against Huddersfield Town.
