Boston College
McBain’s hockey career took a significant turn in 2018 when he was selected 63rd overall by the Minnesota Wild in the NHL Entry Draft. This marked the beginning of his path to the professional league but before making the leap to the NHL. McBain committed to Boston College where he honed his skills and gained valuable experience.

However, as McBain’s collegiate career came to an end, he faced an important decision regarding his future in professional hockey. Despite being drafted by the Minnesota Wild, he informed the team that he did not intend to sign a contract with them. This decision put the Wild in a challenging position as graduating collegiate players become unrestricted free agents in August each year.
Career
With other NHL teams expressing interest in McBain’s services, the Wild had to act swiftly. On March 20, 2022, they traded McBain’s NHL rights to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for a 2022 second-round draft pick. This move opened up new opportunities for McBain, who was signed to an entry-level contract by the Coyotes shortly after the trade.
The young player wasted no time making his presence felt in the NHL. McBain made his NHL debut on April 12, 2022, in a game against the New Jersey Devils. Although it was a challenging start to his professional career, he continued to work hard and gain valuable experience.
McBain’s breakthrough moment came just a few games later when he recorded his first NHL point an assist on a goal by teammate Nick Ritchie. Despite the loss to the Calgary Flames on April 16, 2022, this achievement marked a significant milestone in McBain’s budding career.
As he settled into the NHL, McBain continued to impress with his skills and determination. On December 29, 2022, he had a standout performance, recording his first multi-goal and multi-point game.
