Justin Timberlake Breaks Silence On Britney Spears Memoir Drama

Singer Justin Timberlake claims he meant “no disrespect” by singing “Cry Me A River” – his famous breakup anthem following his split from ex Britney Spears – almost two months after the release of her memoir, “The Woman In Me.”

In her tell-all book, the Princess of Pop reflected on allegations of infidelity and even an unplanned pregnancy. At the time, she claimed that Justin didn’t feel ready to be a father when the former couple dated from 1999 to 2002. The revelations have made his breakup anthem – “Cry Me A River” hit a little bit differently, although the “Mirrors” crooner claimed he meant “no disrespect” when he sang it earlier this week.

During an hour-long set at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas opening, Justin Timberlake claimed that he meant “no disrespect” when he sang the 2002 single “Cry Me A River,” which was the second single off of his debut solo album Justified.

The music video for the track featured an actress who looked a lot like the “Toxic” singer, while the song itself contained lyrics of infidelity. In her memoir, Britney opened up on how she felt unable to tell her side of the story after Justin set the narrative.

“I felt there was no way at the time to tell my side of the story,” Britney wrote. “I couldn’t explain, because I knew no one would take my side once Justin had convinced the world of his version. I don’t think Justin realized the power he had in shaming me. I don’t think he understands to this day.”

In his own 2018 book, “Hindsight,” Justin claimed that he wrote “Cry Me A River” in two hours because he was feeling “scorned.” Many clips of the song have surfaced on social media, including one of “The Social Network” actor performing “Cry Me A River” at Dave Chappelle’s birthday party on August 24.

“Told me not to do this song… F— that,” he told the crowd at the time, casting doubt on the apology that he made to the pop star in February 2021, following the release of “Framing Britney Spears,” an unauthorized New York Times documentary.

“I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others … I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed,” he wrote in a lengthy Instagram post published at the time.

Although Justin has never publicly addressed the drama surrounding Britney Spears’ memoir revelations until now, an insider revealed that he is possibly considering legal action against the pop star for accusations that she made in her tell-all book. Exactly what he plans to sue her for, however, is unclear.

“His original plan was to ride this out,” an insider told the National Enquirer. “But it’s consuming his entire life and making his family miserable.”

“There’s all this hate being hurled at him and Jessica and various high-profile types are unfollowing him, including Madonna — and to cap it off, Britney is threatening to come after him again in a second book,” the source continued, referring to how Madonna unfollowed JT on Instagram.

“He’s furious and looking at legal options,” the insider added. “He’s fully prepared to take Britney to court and make her pay.”

In her own statement posted on social media a few days before the release of her memoir, Britney reminded her fans that the “purpose” of her book “was not to offend anyone by any means.” She went on to say, “I don’t like the headlines I am reading …that’s exactly why I quit the business 4 years ago !!! Most of the book is from 20 years ago … I have moved on and it’s a beautiful clean slate from here !!!”

“Hopefully I can enlighten people who feel particularly alone in most cases or hurt or misunderstood !!! Again, my motive for this book was not to harp on my past experiences which is what the press is doing and it’s dumb and silly !!!” she concluded. “I have moved on since then !! #TheWomaninMe.”

Britney Spears’ memoir “The Woman In Me” was officially released on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
