The Sentinels kicked out their AVL 2023 campaign with a bang, defeating Paper Rex 2-1 in their first encounter. This set the tone for their unbeaten run, which included a 2-0 victory against the tough Korean squad DRX and a hard-fought 2-1 victory over VCT EMEA League 2023 champions Team Liquid.

Off-Season Improvements Pay Off

SEN’s off-season improvements were visible during the AVL 2023 campaign, with their domination especially noticeable on the map Split. They had a perfect 3-0 record on this map, demonstrating their strategic expertise and smart gaming.

Player Performances that Defined Victory

Every member on the Sentinels’ squad showed out, with key individuals making significant contributions. Zachary “zekken” Patrone’s prowess as the new duelist main, Tyson “TenZ” Ngo’s rapid ascent as a top controller player, and replacement player Jordan “Zellsis” Montemurro’s infusion of “great vibes” into the team all played critical roles in their success.

Grand Final Showdown: Sentinels vs. Paper Rex

The grand final began on Split, SEN’s most popular map. They disrupted Paper Rex’s aggressive attack approach by using a twin controller composition with TenZ on Omen and Zellsis on Viper. Dual-layered smokes in A main gave strategic benefits, contributing to the Sentinels’ difficult 9-3 half.

Even after halftime, zekken’s destroying Blast Pack entrance on Raze overwhelmed Paper Rex, sealing SEN’s commanding 13-7 victory.

Sentinels stopped PRX’s progress on Sunset in search of revenge after a prior loss to PRX. The first half ended with a score of 6-6, but SEN took the lead in the second half. They won 13-10 on Sunset after outperforming PRX in post-plant executions, extending their lead to 2-0.

Faced with the danger of being swept, Paper Rex decided to take a chance by pairing Yoru with Jason “f0rsakeN” Susanto on Breeze. Despite a close first half, SEN dominated the second half, winning 13-6. This was the Sentinels’ first tournament victory since 2021.
