A visit to an amusement park provides Minjun and his group of military men (along with some female military personnel) with a much-needed break from their duties in chapter 43 of The Dark Mage’s Return to Enlistment. Minjun enjoys the feats despite his reservations, particularly when his exceptional marksmanship impresses onlookers, notably female military personnel.
But a conversation with a female officer who overheard a conversation between Minjun and her father interrupts his moment of lighthearted fun.
Her father gave Minjun a dungeon item to help with his training, but the official says he also gave her a strong caution not to get romantically involved with her. Despite Minjun’s assurances to the officer that he comprehends and values her father’s concern, he emerges from the conversation with mixed feelings.
However, deep within the dungeon, another soldier named Sangjin makes a critical discovery. In their world, mana stones are valuable, and he finds a huge find of them. A sinister grin spreads across Sangjin’s face as he beholds this treasure, revealing his hidden intentions and foreshadowing impending trouble.
An undercurrent of tension and the impending threat of Sangjin’s ultimate motives replace the cheerful atmosphere of the amusement park as the chapter comes to a close. What Sangjin does with the mana stones and the consequences for Minjun and the other military personnel are up to the reader to speculate about.
