Britney Spears book: 5 biggest revelations in memoir The Woman in Me

Paris Hilton excited to open Britney Spears book sent by singer

Britney Spears’ bombshell memoir, The Woman In Me, releases today but has been drumming up public fervor for days as published extracts revealed some startling revelations.

Abortion at 19

Unarguably one of the biggest bombshells even devoted fans didn’t see coming was Britney’s abortion revelation.

The pop star revealed during her high-profile relationship with Justin Timberlake, she fell pregnant and had an abortion as the NSYNC star said they “weren’t ready” to be parents at 19.

She candidly went into detail about the “excruciating” procedure in 2000 and how vital it was to keep the situation secret, leaving her “doing everything at home”.

She wrote, according to People: “If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father.”

In the aftermath of the “agonizing” decision, Britney claimed her then-beau started playing the guitar while she was “crying and sobbing” on the bathroom floor as he thought “music would help”.

Dumped over text

While Justin and Britney’s split sent shockwaves around the globe in 2002, both musicians have kept their lips sealed on the details of their breakup claiming they promised each other they would keep it private.

That is, until now, as Britney claimed Justin broke up with her over a text and the split left her so heartbroken she could “barely speak for months”.

Cheating allegations

Although neither Britney nor Justin outrightly revealed the situation around their breakup, the Circus songstress was largely portrayed as the villain in the public eye, with Justin’s solo single Cry Me A River allegedly alluding to her infidelity during their relationship.

Not only did Britney drop a major bombshell confirming she did have an affair with choreographer Wade Robson, she also claimed she wasn’t the only one in the relationship doing so.

The Princess of Pop refused to name who Justin’s other woman was because she “doesn’t want to embarrass” her but noted it was “another celebrity” who now has a family of her own.

She also candidly revealed how she personally endured the public outcry against her following Justin’s music video release for Cry Me a River, as well as her interview with Diane Sawyer in 2003 who directly questioned her about the rumors, dubbing the moment as her “breaking point”.

Colin Farrell

Another seemingly bizarre confession sweeping fans off their feet was the confirmation she did have romance with actor Colin Farrell two decades ago.

The 41-year-old described their very brief relationship as a “brawl”, writing according to E Online: “We were all over each other, grappling so passionately it was like we were in a street fight.”

However, the 2003 fling wasn’t meant to be as she wasn’t quite “over Justin” yet.

Why she shaved her head

Britney divulged the reality behind her most notorious moment in 2007 when she shaved her head, debatably some of the biggest insights fans were hoping for in the memoir.

At the time, the mother-of-two was in the middle of divorcing the father of her sons and claimed the painful split combined with years of being in the public spotlight all built up to her inevitable breakdown.

However, she also noted it wasn’t as much of a spiral and more a way to find ownership of herself, writing: “I’d been looked up and down, had people telling me what they thought of my body, since I was a teenager.

Adding shaving her head was her way of “pushing back” against all this.

It was also this very public moment sparking the start of her conservatorship which famously ended in 2021.

Substances

While fans have their suspicions about countless celebrities and potential substance abuse, Britney revealed the only drug she indulged in was the ADHD medication Adderall.

She recalled using the medication during her partying days alongside the likes of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, claiming she enjoyed the high and “a few hours of feeling less depressed”.

The #FreeBritney movement

The #FreeBritney movement was sparked by the Hollywood star’s fans, initially started in 2009 but started gaining traction in 2019 and made headlines across the globe.

The movement was a pivotal aspect of the end of Britney’s conservatorship in 2021, but what fans didn’t know was the startling way their idol found out about their efforts.

She candidly revealed at the time she had been allegedly forced into a rehab facility in 2019 when a nurse showed her a YouTube clip of her united fanbase fighting for her.

Her Instagram

Since the end of her conservatorship, Britney’s Instagram page has sparked a lot of conversation, conspiracies and concern from fans as she’s become known for her erratic dancing videos and scantily clad snaps.

In an excerpt from her memoir obtained by the Daily Mail, she explained: “I know that a lot of people don’t understand why I love taking pictures of myself naked or in new dresses.

“But I think if they’d been photographed by other people thousands of times, prodded and posed for other people’s approval, they’d understand that I get a lot of joy from posing the way I feel sexy and taking my own picture.”

Elsewhere, while speaking about the miscarriage she suffered last year with her now estranged husband, Britney added: “Every song I sing or dance to lets me tell a different story and gives me a new way to escape. Listening to music on my phone helps me cope with the anger and sadness I face as an adult.”

Britney Spears’s memoir, The Woman in Me, published by Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, is available Oct. 24 wherever books are sold.
