Celebrity Big Brother star could ‘quit to avoid boos’ after huge public backlash over show

Celebrity Big Brother’s Gary Goldsmith – the uncle of Prince William’s wife Kate Middleton – might opt to walk out rather than risk getting booed in a live eviction, it has been suggested. The 59-year-old has already been nominated for elimination by Black Sabbath rocker Ozzy Osbourne’s straight-talking wife Sharon.

Meanwhile, it’s also well-known that he’s one of the least popular contestants so far, with a backlash on social media already gathering around him. His seemingly “fat-shaming” comments that some believed were a dig at fellow contestant David Potts, after he arrived on the launch night in a tiny pair of shorts, saw him receive strong words from viewers.

All of that means that a live eviction, hosted by AJ Odudu and Will Best, could prove painful for him. One viewer tweeted: “I have a feeling that Gary might walk out rather than be evicted.”

Another wasn’t keen for him to take the easy way out, declaring “Gary better not walk, I NEED the ‘GET GARY OUT’ chants on Friday.” A third chimed in: “They should leave Gary to pack his bags and walk, let him go.”

If Gary stays in the house, then he could treat the other housemates – and the viewers – to some very colourful stories about his royal connections. However, it’s not yet known how much he’s willing to divulge – and whether those watching at home will want to wait around to hear.

In last night’s episode of CBB, he told former Love Island winner Ekin-Su Culculoglu that Kate Middleton is receiving “the best care in the world”.

He told her: “All the family’s done is put the wagons round and look after family first before anything else.

“They put a statement out and just said, ‘She’s taking some time to (recuperate) and will see you in Easter’.”

He vowed that she would return to public service once she has recovered.

It’s currently still being speculated whether Gary would choose to face an early defeat and leave voluntarily rather than risk the embarrassment of a public backlash.

Last year, 23-year-old security guard Paul was booed savagely under similar circumstances, despite his mum protesting that he had “a heart of gold”.

Earlier this week, Gary had urged his housemates “not to worry” about him, adding: “I’m not the big lad in the room!”

Yet viewers quizzed at the time whether this was a dig about David – who had undergone a huge image transformation before making his CBB debut, and even shed three stone – and in protest, called for Gary to leave.
