The comedian’s publicist confirmed that he passed away peacefully in his home after suffering a heart attack. Lewis had agreed to appear on the final season of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ at the request of one of his oldest friends, Larry David. As a result of the Parkinson’s, Lewis had already ended his stand-up career. This resulted in his losing a bit of his net worth over the last several years. Richard Lewis’ net worth was valued at around $7 million. This number seems pretty low given how long Richard’s career in stand-up, film, and television had been. Still, $7 million is nothing to scoff at. Although, it’s nothing like his buddy Larry David’s $450 million net worth. Some sites, including The National Review, claim that David’s net worth could actually be as high as $950 million. A figure that David has denied over the years.

Richard Lewis had gone into detail about his personal relationship with Larry David on a number of occasions, including on The Rich Eisen Show.

The two of them knew each other for years. They were even born in the same hospital in 1947, a couple of days apart.

“It gets odder than that,” Richard Lewis explained. “We knew each other when we were teenagers and hated each other. We never saw each other until we became comedians and we didn’t know that we were the same people 12 years before. We almost had a — well, he doesn’t think we had a fistfight — but I was ready to knock him down.”

Of course, the fact that Richard and Larry disagreed on the origin of their relationship is fantastically ‘Curb-esque’.

Although both have stated that they went to the same summer camp as teenagers and this is where they became arch-enemies. Then they went their separate ways for years and ran into each other at a comedy club. Their feud quickly resurfaced until they found common ground.

Craig Ferguson Was Visibly Frustrated During An Unhinged Interview With A Curb Your Enthusiasm Star

Craig Ferguson usually could cope with any guest but Richard Lewis from Curb Your Enthusiasm got under the host’s skin.

But even as best friends, the two constantly fought. After all, you’re dealing with two very neurotic comedians. However, while Richard was very much in touch with his feelings, Larry can be awkward and uncomfortable with touching moments. This difference tends to brew hilarious conflict that is no doubt channeled onto Curb Your Enthusiasm.

During his Rich Eisen interview, Richard said that both he and Larry are playing versions of themselves on the show. Except Larry and Richard are both far more conflict-averse in real life.

Richard got the job on Curb Your Enthusiasm basically because he was Larry’s friend in real life. Due to over 50 years of friendship, there was no real discussion about the character Richard would be playing or anything about the show.

It all worked out… mostly…

During an interview with the cast of Curb at the Paley Center, Larry said that he and Richard sometimes had conflicts on set because Richard liked to get the episode outlines ahead of time so that he could prepare for the mostly improvised scenes.

In fact, as soon as Larry mentioned this, he and Richard got into an argument in front of the studio audience.

But these arguments always ended in Richard complimenting Larry, who he thought was the “Norman Lear” of his generation.

Larry giving Richard Lewis a consistent job on Curb proves that respect was always mutual.

May Richard Lewis rest in peace.
