Fans had a lot to say looking back at the moment.

“Obviously that was his way of getting out of that question. Just goes to show how Dave Grohl is even more badass than we thought.”

“He is a great person…don’t know where he is able to find all that patience with people.” Another fan writes, “Well, he is actually deaf in one ear now but he also doesn’t have to give soundbites for opportunists to exploit so there’s a handy use for it.”

The fan is exactly right as Grohl does in fact have hearing problems. Although in this case, he was just trying to avoid the Donald Trump question.

Dave Grohl Admitted He Has Legit Issues When It Comes To His Hearing

Speaking alongside Howard Stern, Dave Grohl revealed he’s been reading lips for the last 20 years. Grohl opened up about his difficulties communicating with others. Depending on the setting, it can get very complicated for Grohl.

“If you were sitting next to me right here at dinner, I wouldn’t understand a word you were saying to me, the whole time,” he told Stern.

“There’s no way. In a crowded restaurant, that’s worse. That’s the worst thing about this pandemic s—, it’s like, people wearing masks. I’ve been reading lips for 20 years, so when someone comes up to me and they’re like [garbled noise], I’m like, ‘I’m a rock musician. I’m deaf, I can’t hear what you’re saying.’”

He continues, “My ears are still tuned in to certain frequencies, and if I hear something that’s slightly out of tune, or a cymbal that’s not bright enough or something like that, in the mix, I can hear the minutiae of everything that we have done to that song; I really can.”

Dave Grohl Completely Broke Down Mid-Concert Playing A Tribute To Late Foo Fighters Member Taylor Hawkins

Grohl was overcome with emotions during the concert, and that was especially apparent during the song, “My Hero,” as the artist broke down on stage.

Despite his hearing loss, Grohl still refuses to protect his ears during performances.

“I wanna hear the audience like, in front of me and I want to turn around be able to hear Taylor [Hawkins] right there and go over here and hear Pat [Smear], and go over here and hear Chris [Shiflett] and stuff like that,” he explained. “It just messes with your spatial understanding of where you are on stage.”

Grohl is clearly an old school kind of guy.

Dave Grohl did comment on Donald Trump back in 2018, calling the President at the time, “a massive jerk.” His words weren’t positive, and that was likely the reason he avoided the question in the first place.

Grohl revealed, “The American Dream was still tangible, still desirable. Today, the American Dream is broken. I’ve probably travelled internationally more than our current president and the one thing I understand that he doesn’t is that the world isn’t as big as you think it is,” he said.

“It is all in your neighbourhood. India, Asia, Iceland aren’t other solar systems. I am ashamed of our president. I feel apologetic for it when I travel. Listen, who cares what I think about guns or religion, but the thing about Trump that stings the most is this: he just seems like a massive jerk. Right? I know a lot of wonderful people who don’t share my politics and you can bet tomorrow night in the stadium not everyone will share the same opinion or hold the same views. But when I sing ‘My Hero’ they will all sing it with me. In the three hours that I am on stage, none of that matters.”

Grohl felt differently when President Joe Biden was elected, stating he was “elated” over his election.
