The memoir received thousands of positive reviews from readers, and Jill went on a tour of interviews, even winding up on the documentary series Shiny Happy People to discuss her parents’ religious beliefs in more depth (Michelle and Jim Bob even publicly responded to Jill’s interview, and they didn’t seem happy).
One thing led to another, and Jill and her husband Derick wound up chatting with Matt and Abby, influencers who started a podcast called The Unplanned Podcast.

Some of the information was new to viewers, while other details were already hashed out in Jill’s memoir and various other interviews. But this time, there was a clear division among groups of fans who support the Duggars, but not necessarily the Duggar kids.

When Matt and Abby posted the interview with Jill and Derick to YouTube, viewers flocked to the comments to praise everyone involved. The top-liked comment noted how respectful Jill was, calling her the “bigger person” and saying how proud they were.
Another top-rated comment commented on the irony that Derick, who was “personally recruited” to marry Jill (an interpretation of the family’s father-supervised courting policies), wound up being Jim Bob’s adversary in the end; Derick threatened a protective order against Jim Bob at one point.

Other commenters echoed Jill’s feelings on IBLP, the organization that the Duggars are said to be part of, and pointed out how upset Derick seemed while Jill kept her composure. Many comments praised Jill for that composure and how “level headed, graceful, and forgiving” she seemed in the interview.
Yet another subset of Duggar fans had an entirely different perception of the interview and Jill overall.

Longtime followers of the Duggars might remember the Duggar Family Blog, a website run by self-proclaimed family friends of the Duggars. Over the years, the blog has reported on the Duggar family’s lives, including updates on the Duggar kids’ children, recaps of interviews and announcements, and even reports on Josh Duggar’s extended prison sentence.
When Jill and Derick appeared on The Unplanned Podcast, Duggar Family Blog posted about it, and commenters had a lot to say.
Some comments were positive, relating the backlash Jill sometimes receives to the commentary that criticized Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo when they, too, spoke out following Jinger’s memoir. However, many comments dragged Jill and other siblings who have spoken out, calling Jill “disrespectful” for the “absolutely outrageous behavior” of criticizing her parents.
