ITV star has fans convinced they’re the new Dancing on Ice host after major clue

ITV veteran Stephen Mulhern has left some fans thinking he hinted that he’s set to become the new host of Dancing On Ice. The star’s fans think he’s “given away” that he’s landed the coveted gig by posting a snap of himself in a voice recording studio.

The presenter then asked his Instagram followers, of which there are 752,000, to guess what he is up to. The tease comes as speculation around Dancing on Ice is at a frenzied high as the show gears up to return in January.

Phillip Schofield, 61, resigned from ITV a few months ago after his affair with a young male runner was exposed, and his longtime co-host Holly Willoughby’s return is uncertain after she quit her job on This Morning in October.

Stephen told fans: “I’m in the studio recording a voiceover today. What do you think I could be saying?”

One follower replied: “Welcome to Dancing On Ice”. Another wrote: “I’m the new host for Dancing on Ice that would be Brilliant x.” A third asked: “Voice over for Dancing on Ice???”

Stephen, 46, has been widely reported as the favourite to fill the role of co-host and previously confirmed he was in talks. Meanwhile, I’m A Celebrity’s Josie Gibson is the frontrunner to take from Holly should the embattled star choose not to return.

However, plenty of names have been thrown into the mix as potential hosts, including Rochelle Humes.

Holly, who show bosses are said to be “quietly confident” will resume her position, which she has held since the competition’s return in 2018, has remained publicly silent since her October 10 announcement about quitting This Morning in October.

She wrote in part at the time, in view of her 8.5 million followers: “This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we’ve done together.

“Thank you to everyone at ITV for being supportive. To every guest who has sat on our sofa, thank you.”

The mother-of-three continued: “Most of all, thank you to the wonderful viewers. You’ve been so loyal, so supportive and the very best company every day…

“It’s been an honour to just be part of its story and I know this story has many chapters left to go. Sadly, however, I now feel I have to make this decision for me and my family. I will miss you all so much.”

A spokesperson for Dancing on Ice said: “Further announcements regarding Dancing on Ice will be made in due course.”

Dancing On Ice 2024 is expected to return to ITV1 next month.
