When Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez were married, despite the fact it was clear from the beginning to Lopez that the marriage would not last, they were one of the Hollywood power couples of their time. The duo were great friends with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Eva Longoria and Tony Parker, and David Beckham and Victoria Beckham. But when Anthony and Lopez divorced, friendships dissolved. This happened not only because their friends divorced as well but because when there is a split, sides are taken.
Unfortunately for Lopez, many that she thought were her friends disappeared after the news of her divorce from Anthony became public knowledge. This was not because those in her social circle suddenly did not care for Lopez or the fact that she and Anthony did not get along, as they have a strong friendship despite the divorce. It was out of loyalty for many that Anthony remained friends with at least one-half of the couples he and Lopez were seen at events with over the years. Anthony remained in contact with Cruise and Longoria, while Lopez had no contact with them, nor with Holmes or Parker either.
The biggest blow came, however, when sides were taken by the Beckhams. Both Lopez and Anthony were close with the famous Brits, so whoever got to keep them as friends after the divorce was the fortunate one and the one who walked away empty-handed would be feeling a void in their life for some time to come.
Marc Anthony And David Beckham Are Close Friends
Anthony and Beckham met two decades ago while Beckham was playing for New Madrid. At that time, Beckham recalled that he was “starstruck” by Anthony. But all it took was spending some time together and the two realized that there was a bond between them and that bond has only grown stronger in the years since that initial meeting.
“So I first met Marc 20 years ago when I was playing for Real Madrid,” Beckham explained during a speech honoring Anthony for his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
“Probably not a very cool thing to say, but I was very starstruck when I met Marc because on the way to every Real Madrid game I used to listen to his music. I now dress a little bit like him. I learned salsa for one man only — but please don’t tell my wife.”
Beckham went on to say, “But when we met, we immediately had a special connection. I knew that I had a friend for life. Over the years our friendship has grown, and Marc is family – godfather to my son, Cruz, and someone I love to spend time with.”
As such, it is clear that when it came to the divorce, Anthony was the one who kept the Beckhams as his friends. This was because while they were friends, they were truly more like family instead.
David Beckham And Marc Anthony Consider Each Other Family
Since that initial meeting decades ago, Beckham and Anthony have gone from being friends to considering themselves each other’s brother. This relationship can be seen by how the two interact with one another and how they show up to support one another during their milestones, regardless of whatever else is going on in their lives.
When Anthony got married to his wife, Nadia Ferreira, Beckham was at his side as a groomsman, despite the fact that Anthony’s children Emme and Max were noticeably absent. Several months later when the newlyweds welcomed their first baby together, Beckham was one of the first to visit the little one.
“Tío David nos vino a visitar,” Anthony captioned a picture on Instagram that showed Beckham kissing the newborn’s foot. “Que bendición,” (The translation states, “Uncle David came to visit us. What a blessing.”)
“Once a brother always a brother,” Beckham captioned a black and white picture of himself and Anthony according to People. “Happy Birthday man, Love Ya.”
In response, Anthony posted a smiling photo of himself and Beckham, in what appeared to be during the holiday season.
“We laugh as one,” Anthony stated.
As for Anthony, he was asked to be Cruz Beckham’s godfather, when Cruz was baptized in 2019.
“So proud of my beautiful boy @cruzbeckham,” Anthony captioned a picture of himself and Cruz. “Thank you for the honor @davidbeckham & @victoriabeckham! I’m over the moon! Here’s to life.”
All of this is a stark difference to the relationship that Lopez has with the Beckhams, which appears to be non-existent.
Jennifer Lopez Has Reportedly Not Talked To The Beckhams Since She And Marc Anthony Divorced
While Lopez and the Beckhams were very friendly when she and Anthony were married, once that relationship fizzled, the friendship did with the former soccer star and Spice Girl as well. In fact, in the days after Harper was born, Lopez had not reached out to give her congratulations, using the media to do so instead.
“I haven’t seen them (the Beckhams) in a while,” Lopez explained. “They had little baby Harper…I wish them the best.”
There is no indication that in the years since her divorce from Anthony that there has been any contact with the Beckhams. Instead, Lopez appeared to chalk up losing close friends as part of the fallout of the divorce.
This is an all too common thing that happens when couples split as their friends have to choose sides. In this case, the Beckhams chose Anthony and are closer than ever while Lopez has gone on to live her life and be happy after reuniting and marrying her longtime love, Ben Affleck.
