Seann William Scott Was Typecast After Playing Stifler In American Pie
It’s hard to think of other big projects that had Scott in it. And that’s because he played so many other Stifler-like roles, minus the box-office success. In 2010, while promoting his movie Cop Out, the actor admitted to MTV News: “I had so much fun and loved the character [Stifler]. I don’t want to be known as that character forever. Now I’m realizing that I probably will be known as that character forever!”
Speaking to EW in 2023, Scott said of his Stifler fame: “I was just always hoping that I could be in movies, I never thought about playing a character that people would remember. So, for me, it was like a dream come true.”
The comedian also had a failed attempt at drama. In 2014, he played a darker role in Just Before I Go – the directorial debut of Courteney Cox. “I wouldn’t have a career if it wasn’t for those movies,” Scott said of being typecast as a “party boy” before his dramedy that only earned $10,970 at the box office. “I didn’t really give a sh-t about being type-cast. I don’t care because I just feel so blessed to be doing what we’re doing.”
While Scott’s onscreen career didn’t pan out, his voice-acting career went pretty well. He’s the voice behind the funny possum, Crash in the Ice Age franchise. The 47-year-old actor even likened his animated character to Stifler in 2012. “Kind of like another character I’ve played [in American Pie], Crash hasn’t changed a whole lot,” he said of the movie’s fourth installment. “Maybe he’s become more responsible, he has more responsibilities, I think.”

Why Seann William Scott Checked Into A Treatment Facility Before Filming American Pie Reunion
In April 2011, TMZ reported that Scott completed “a 30-day stint in a treatment facility” after voluntarily checking in a month ago for “health and personal issues.” They also confirmed that the actor was joining American Reunion. Back in 2003, Scott told People: “I don’t really party. If I did, it would probably just be trying a new bottle of wine.”

Seann William Scott Was Only Paid $8000 For Playing Stifler In American Pie
In July 2023, Scott revealed that he was only paid $8000 for the first American Pie. “I think so, yeah, because I remember afterward I bought a used Thunderbird for like $5,000 or maybe $6,000, I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, baby,’” he said of spending his small payout. “I don’t know what happened to the other $2,000 because I ended up having to work at the LA Zoo as a churro guy, so maybe it was even less than $8,000.”
But for American Reunion, the actor received a hefty $5 million, plus a small percentage of the movie’s box office earnings ($235 million). That’s not bad for a movie that would have been canceled today. On what Stifler’s current life would be, Scott said: “I think Stifler would be a stripper.”
He continued: “He’d be working at a pretty crappy strip club. His stage name would be ‘Inferno,’ dressed up as a fireman. Problem is his body is a little soft. He let himself go a little bit, but he’s still trying out his sexy moves.”
In October 2023, it was confirmed that American Pie 5 was still happening, with a sixth spin-off in the works.
