At the young age of 3, Jesse Plemons appeared in the Coca-Cola commercial. By the age of eight, he had already started playing minor roles in Hollywood films and television shows. He balanced his acting career throughout his high school studying at Mart High School.

In addition, he made his acting debut playing in the minor role of Hobo in the 1998 film “Finding North.” He continued his acting journey appearing in small roles in films such as “Varsity Blues” (1999) and “All the Pretty Horses” (2000).

Later, he guest-starred in the TV series “Walker, Texas Ranger” and “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.”

In 2002, he experienced a little professional success when he played Preacher Star in the indie film “Children on Their Birthdays.” The same year, he landed another minor role as Ox in the sports comedy “Like Mike.”

In his television career, he continued to appear in minor roles on TV series like “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Huff,” and “Judging Amy.” However, by the mid-2000s, he was taking acting more seriously and sought mature roles.

In the mid-2000s, he played modest supporting roles in films including “When Zachary Beaver Came to Town” and “The Failures.”

Breakthrough Role

His career took a significant turn in 2006 when he was cast as Landry Clarke in the sports drama series “Friday Night Lights.” It was one of the main roles in the series, which was one of the most popular television series of the decade, both critically and commercially. He reprised his role in the series’ first four seasons, after which he mostly appeared as a guest.

Later, he was seen in a supporting role as Charles Gaffney in the 2009 black comedy film “Observe and Report.” The next year, he was cast in a supporting role as Jesus, a pot dealer in the independent comedy-drama film “Shrink.”

He starred in the lead role as a struggling young actor named Spencer West in the 2011 drama film “Meeting Spencer.” The same year, he played a supporting role as Jake in the science fiction comedy film “Paul.”

Return to Television

In 2012, he returned to television with a supporting part in the American romantic sitcom “Bent.” He plays an important role in the critically acclaimed TV series. Despite its success, the show was discontinued after only six episodes.

In the same year, he made his biggest success in his acting career, playing Todd Alquist in the drama series “Breaking Bad.” Meanwhile, the series was one of the most successful American television series of all time. It boosted Jesse’s acting career. In the 2019 Netflix film “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie” he reprised the role of Todd.

He was cast as an important role of Garn Sours in the 2014  period drama film “The Homesman.” The next year, he was cast in the role of Kevin Weeks in the biographical crime drama film ” Black Mass” starring Johnny Depp in the lead role.

From 2015 to Present

He played a small role in the educational comedy series “Drunk History.” In addition, his other breakthrough role comes in the 2015 black comedy crime drama series “Fargo,” portraying the role of Ed Blumquist, the leading character in its second season.

He was cast in four films “The Discovery,” “American Made,” “The Post,” and “Hostiles” in the year 2017. The actor played a supporting role as Kurt in the Christian Bale 2018 critically acclaimed film  “Vice.”

In 2019, he played a supporting part in Martin Scorsese’s criminal film “The Irishman,” which debuted at the New York Film Festival. The next year, he played the lead role in Charlie Kaufman’s psychological drama “I’m Thinking of Ending Things.” In 2021, he was cast in three movies “Judas and the Black Messiah,” “Jungle Cruise,” and “Antlers.”

He made his debut as a producer and also starred in Charlie McDowell’s noir thriller “Windfall,” released in 2022. He appeared in the HBO Max real crime series “Love & Death” with Elizabeth Olsen in 2023, and he reconnected with Martin Scorsese for a starring part in his western thriller Killers of the Flower Moon, with Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, and Robert De Niro.

Upcoming Projects

He was cast in Yorgos Lanthimos’ film “Kinds of Kindness,” opposite Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, and Margaret Qualley, in September 2022. Moreover, he signed on to play a supporting part in the Netflix political thriller series “Zero Day,” which stars Robert De Niro and reunites him with Love and Death director Lesli Linka Glatter.
