Coleen Nolan has shared an emotional health update regarding her sister, Linda. The Loose Women star spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about her sister’s cancer diagnosis which had spread to her brain last year.

Linda, 64, was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. She has been battling secondary breast cancer since 2017 and in 2020 it was revealed that a third recurrence of cancer in her liver had occurred.

The star is not the only Nolan sister to be fighting the illness, as Coleen recently opened up about her own skin cancer scare on Loose Women.

Speaking about Linda, Coleen said: “She’s so positive in the respect of she’s living, she genuinely is living every day like it’s the last and making memories.

“And and as long as if she’s got the strength to do that, then it wouldn’t be fair of me not to follow suit. And do I have days where I feel down? Of course, that’s natural. And do I have days where I’m scared to death and worried that it’s coming for me next?”

Speaking about Linda’s treatment, Coleen gave the update: “Oh, my God, it’s unbelievable. It’s shrunk again. So the treatment is working so they can keep her on that.

“And I think as long as they’re treating her and keeping it at bay as much as they can and then that gives you hope. But the main thing it’s given us is we now appreciate every single day, and also, we make more time for each other.”

Coleen is also raising awareness in a new campaign for Non Smoking Day (13 March) and encouraging others to start their journey in quitting smoking. The TV star recently stopped smoking after experiencing a terrifying health scare.

She said: “You know, when I was younger, my dad was a really heavy smoker my whole life, you know, he smoked 80 a day. I grew up watching that and obviously fell into the trap of it. […]

“You start to think about your future more, especially when you have your kids and you’re waiting for grandkids. It was a wake up call for me. I’ve tried many times over the years, and again you know, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with keep trying.

“You do fail and you just gotta keep trying and one of them will stick. And hopefully this is my one. But it took me to have a really, really scary health scare for me to really open my eyes and go: ‘What am I doing?’”

Coleen features in a campaign video which you can watch here.

Coleen Nolan is supporting DHSC’s latest quit smoking campaign to encourage the nation’s 5.3 million smokers to make a quit attempt this No Smoking Day. For free support to quit search ‘Smokefree’ or visit the Better Health website https://www.nhs.uk/better-health/quit-smoking/.
