According to the authorities, on March 25, 2020, Cirko went into Gerrity’s Supermarket in Hanover Township, close to Wilkes-Barre, and purposefully coughed on fresh produce and other goods while yelling that she had the COVID-19 virus.

Per the police, she continued “throughout several aisles before attempting to steal a 12-pack of beer as she was being asked to leave the store by employees.” Cirko is accused of yelling and coughing and spitting near the bread and vegetable sections. The supermarket chain co-owner, Joe Fasula said that more than $35,000 worth of merchandise had to be thrown out as a result of what the Gerrity’s Facebook page called a ‘twisted prank.’

According to her lawyer, Cirko tested negative for COVID-19 because she was intoxicated at the time. She apologized in court on Tuesday for her sentence. Cirko was given a sentence of one to two years in jail, followed by eight years of probation, by a judge in Luzerne County who referred to her actions as “totally outrageous.”
