Speaking alongside People, Matthew Perry revealed he would give up fame and fortune to avoid facing addiction. Credit to the late actor who was very open about his past struggles with addiction issues.
He revealed, “The fact that I would trade it all to not have this disease is true.” He continues, “But I don’t belittle how fun the experience has been on Friends,” he added. “And the money was amazing. Just the creative experience of being on the show probably saved my life.”

“I wanted to share when I was safe from going into the dark side of everything again,” he told PEOPLE exclusively in his cover story. “I had to wait until I was pretty safely sober — and away from the active disease of alcoholism and addiction — to write it all down. The cast of Friends would also mutually write a statement in regards to their co-star’s tragic passing.
The cast wrote, “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family,” their statement reads.
“There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.” “In time we will say more, as and when we are able,” the statement continues. “For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”
