Michael McIntyre has been forced to cancel a comedy gig due to undergoing a medical procedure. The 48-year-old comedian announced on Sunday that his show at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton would not be taking place on Monday.

This is the second time he’s had to reschedule a show from his Macnificent World Tour, after missing a performance in Plymouth last week. On Twitter, his account posted: “We regret to inform customers that Michael McIntyre will be unable to perform on Monday 4 March at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton.”

“Unfortunately, Michael has had an operation to remove kidney stones.” The post continued: “The show will be rescheduled to a later date which will be announced shortly.

“Tickets will remain valid for the new date. If you are unable to make the new date you will be entitled to a refund.”

They also apologised for any inconvenience caused. Previously, his account had posted about his inability to perform at Plymouth Pavilions due to “illness”.

The post also said: “The show will be rescheduled to a later date to be announced soon.

“If you are unable to make the new date you will be entitled to a refund. We are sorry for any inconvenience.”

McIntyre is set to perform for three nights at Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena from Friday to Sunday and has more shows lined up this month in Newcastle and Manchester.

His 1.1 million followers were disappointed by the news but wished Michael a speedy recovery, with one writing: “Kidney stones – argh the pain! So sorry to hear you’ve been suffering.”

Another penned: “Ouch! I had kidney stones a few years ago, more painful than giving birth twice. Hoping Michael is on the mend.”

One more commented: “Get well soon Michael. Do you know if you’ll be well enough for Nottingham at the weekend?”

While a fourth penned: “Wishing you a speedy and healthy recovery and best wishes buddy.”

The funnyman is best recognised for his roles on Michael McIntyre’s Big Show and the popular game show The Wheel, both aired on BBC.
