Paddy McGuinness forced to step in after viewers accuse him of swearing in advert

Paddy McGuinness has been forced to step in and correct his followers after receiving complaints about an advert he featured in. The 50-year-old partnered with package holiday experts On the Beach for an advert that launched on Christmas Day, but fans aren’t happy after watching the short clip.

Paddy’s voice can be heard throughout the 30 second ad, where he explains the perks that are being offered as well as calling the family featured in the ad, “booking geniuses”.

However, listeners have misheard the word booking and believe that the ITV star is using a swear word instead. As a result, On the Beach and Paddy have been inundated with complaints ever since the ad launched on December 25.

One person said: “Not actually watching the TV, I keep hearing your latest ad. Every time I think Paddy McGuiness is saying ‘F******G GENIUSES’ until I stopped to watch it yesterday and realised he’s saying ‘BOOKING GENIUSES’!!!”

Another expressed: “Listening to your recent TV ad on several channels, I am not at all pleased to hear the voice-over, clearly done by Paddy McGuinness, who most deplorably, modifies his heavily affected Northern accent and says what sounds like ‘F*cking geniuses!’ Whilst meaning to say ‘Booking geniuses’.”

Now the On the Beach ambassador has taken to Instagram to clarify what he’s actually saying after the complaints.

He told his two million followers: “Quick one, a lot of people have been getting in touch on social media, saying they’ve seen my adverts with On the Beach. Are you swearing?

“Just to clear this up, it’s booking geniuses, not ‘f-ing’ geniuses, as in book with on the Beach and you get free lounge access and all the perks, that’s the whole idea, not ‘f-ing’ geniuses.”

“Booking geniuses, not the other one, now book off and enjoy your Sunday,” he concluded.

Chief customer officer for On the Beach also clarified: “It seems our advert has once again caused a little bit of stir amongst listeners.

“To echo our chief holiday ambassador Paddy McGuinness, he is saying ‘booking’ and not the other word, as Paddy said, you can’t swear on TV!”

Fans took to Paddy’s post to share their confusion, with one saying: “My lad keeps saying the rude version! He’s adamant that’s what you say!” A second added: “Omg! Every time I hear it I double take!!,” while a third wrote: “First time I heard it – did sound like it,” alongside a laughing with tears emoji.
