Phillip Schofield will not be returning to television or radio following the publication of ITV’s report into his affair with a much younger colleague, according to reports.
Friends of the fallen presenter have claimed the former This Morning host is in a “very bad place” and is said to have dreaded the outcome of the review – which cleared bosses of a cover-up.
According to The Mail On Sunday, Phillip has continued to “cocoon” himself away at his London home following the affair scandal aftermath.
Pals told the publication: “Phillip isn’t returning anywhere, he has been in a really bad place since he decided to tell the truth and resign from his job. He has got himself into a cocoon and he is continuing to recover. He has had the report hanging over his head for a long time.
“It has been a thing of dread for him.”
The 61-year-old is said to be ready to “build a life” again following the investigation with hopes of finding some pastime away from the limelight.
The father-of-two did not take part in the external investigation, which was conducted by lawyer Jane Mulcahy KC.
The findings of ITV’s external review into the ITV daytime show were released on Thursday, 7 December.
Phillip “reluctantly declined” to take part in an external review into the circumstances surrounding his departure from ITV because of “the risk to his health”, a report says.
Phillip resigned from the ITV daytime show after admitting to having an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a younger colleague and lying about it.
The presenter had been hosting This Morning since 2002 when he replaced John Leslie.
He also presented ITV’s skating show Dancing On Ice after catapulting to fame as a children’s television presenter on the BBC.
Phillip has since stepped down from all of his presenting gigs on ITV.
