Erling Haaland will not play in Manchester City’s Premier League trip to Luton Town on Sunday, having not travelled with the rest of Pep Guardiola’s squad.
City visit the promoted Hatters looking to end a run of four league games without a victory and can cut the gap to current leaders Liverpool to four points with a win after Arsenal’s loss at Aston Villa on Saturday night.
However, the Cityzens will have to overcome Luton without Haaland, who has 19 goals in all competitions so far this season after netting 52 last term, with The Athletic’s David Ornstein and Sam Lee confirming the Norwegian striker will not feature at Kenilworth Road.
Julian Alvarez is the natural alternative to deputise in Haaland’s absence. The 2022 World Cup winner has scored four apiece in the Premier League and Champions League so far in 2023/24.
Stars like Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva, Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish are among City’s major goal threats without their behemoth forward.
While Guardiola remains without star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne as he works his way back from a hamstring injury which required surgery, Rodri is back from suspension after missing the midweek defeat at Aston Villa.
