Ronnie Tutt is a late drummer and musical star from the United States. Ronnie Tutt had played concerts and recording sessions for Elvis Presley, the Carpenters, Roy Orbison, Neil Diamond, and Jerry Garcia. He is regarded as one of the best drummers and a big personality in the 1970s.

Early Life

Born as Ronald Ellis Tutt, best known by the name Ronnie Tutt. He was born on the 12th of March 1938, in Dallas, Texas, the United States of America. At the age of 83, he passed away and held American nationality. However, there is not much more known about his ethical background, religious beliefs, childhood life, and parents.

However, it is known that he was a native Texan and was involved with music and performing arts for most of his childhood. He played the guitar, violin, and trumpet before taking up the drums at the age of seventeen. In an early performance, he shared the bill with a then-unknown Elvis Presley.

Professional Career

Ronnie Tutt began recording and performing with Jerry Garcia’s, Jerry Garcia’s, and Merl Saunders’ short Legion of Mary in 1974. Meanwhile, the drummer played drums with the Jerry Garcia Band for four years and contributed to Billy Joel’s second and third albums.

When the TCB band disbanded following Elvis Presley’s death, Neil Diamond invited Tutt to join Diamond as Diamond’s permanent performing and recording session drummer.

In addition, he also appeared on the Piano Man album. The drummer also played drums on Garcia’s studio recordings “Reflections” (1976) and “Cats Under the Stars” (1978). He, on the other hand, returned to the studio with Garcia in 1982 to assist in the recording of “Run for the Roses.”

Tutt has also played on Billy Joel’s second and third albums, Piano Man (all tracks except “Captain Jack”) in 1973 and Streetlife Serenade in 1974. He has also played on Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons’s solo albums.
