Before Stern, Rihanna, and Kardashian rose to fame, Zsa Zsa Gabor had former employees speak out against her on national television.
Why Did Zsa Zsa Gabor’s Former Employees Talk Out About Her?
Before Geraldo Rivera became a staple of Fox News for years, he hosted a daytime talk show called Geraldo. During one episode of Geraldo, a pair of men named Ricardo Busto and Brian DeShazor who used to work for Zsa Zsa Gabor as secretaries appeared. Busto and DeShazor spoke about how awful it was to work for Gabor.
Partway through the episode, Rivera asked the two men, “What’s Zsa Zsa really like?…She’s very flamboyant obviously, very controversial. Is she kind to people who work for her?” In response to that question, DeShazor described how Gabor could occasionally be kind but he quickly undermined that statement.
“She has very little spurts. Mostly, not very nice at all. Every now and then, she’ll like give you a gift or something little, something. But it’s usually used or something from her closet. Nothing bought. No, she’s terrible. She’s terrible to work for.”

After Rivera remarked on how the description of Gabor had gone from not very nice to terrible, he asked the obvious follow-up question. “How terrible? What? What do you mean? What does she do?” At this point, DeShazor began to describe the abusive way Gabor treated him as an employee.
“Constant berating, you know, yelling screaming, expecting way too much from a person.”
From there, Rivera went on to ask Busto if he agreed with DeShazor’s assessment of what Gabor was like as a boss. In response, Busto explained how his time working for Gabor started poorly when he offended her by calling her by her first name.
Busto then went on to tell a story the angry Christmas card he once got from Gabor. According to what Busto claimed at that time, Gabor once sent him a nasty Christmas card.
” I had left her to go work for an airline. And um, I had sent her a note because I know how she comes to Washington a lot. And so, I was gonna tell her that if she was ever in the Washington area, where I’ve resided, to give me a call. And then I got this card like three weeks after I’d sent, you know a very nice note saying, ‘Thank you for letting me work for you and that’s the card I got.”
The show then cut to a shot of the card Gabor allegedly sent in Rivera’s hand as he read it out.
“Roberto, Ms. Gabor is surprised you sent her an Xmas card after the cheap article you sold to Star Magazine. You were the only one who could have done it.”
Busto went on to deny that he ever spoke to Star Magazine or any other outlets about Gabor. “Never, ever, ever.”
Ricardo Busto pointed out an amazing aspect of the card Gabor sent him. “You know, the funny thing is, my name isn’t Roberto. She never, ever once got my name right.” Busto then revealed that Gabor once gave him a present with a card that labeled him “Carlos”.
How Did Zsa Zsa Gabor React To The Accusations?
During Zsa Zsa Gabor’s life, she rose to a level of fame that allowed her to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Gabor was able to do that partially because she had an incredible way with words. For example, Gabor once said of herself, “This attitude of mine gets me into a lot of trouble.”
Given Gabor’s gift for gab and the fact that she knew she had an attitude, it was fascinating to see how she responded to the accusations. Ultimately, Gabor appeared on Geraldo to respond to Ricardo Busto and Brian DeShazor’s claims about what she was like as a boss.

Part of Gabor’s comments about her former employees seemed to confirm one of Busto’s claims. While trying to talk about her former employees, Gabor couldn’t remember DeShazor’s name at first. As a result, Gabor called DeShazor “the other one” before coming up with his first name.
After remembering DeShazor’s name, Gabor went on to make her own accusations against her former employees.
“[DeShazor] forged three of my checks and the City National Bank, I don’t know what they’ve done. But anyhow, this is the guy who was on. Ricardo is the one who, he went to Star because probably you pay about three or four hundred dollars for a story like that.”
After Gabor made her own accusation, Rivera revealed he was going to bring Ricardo Busto out on stage. In response to this, Gabor said she didn’t want to see Busto but Rivera completely ignored her.
Once Busto came on stage, his first interaction with Gabor was fascinating. After Gabor offered her hand to Busto, he took it as he bent over and kissed her cheek. Gabor then asked Gabor if she was a good person who loved him.
While Busto certainly didn’t sing Gabor’s praises at that moment, he portrayed Gabor in a more nuanced way. “She loved me, but we had our differences at times.” Busto then went on to express appreciation for what Gabor did for him. “She did teach me a lot. We did have some fun times, and it was a challenge at times.”
After that, Gabor fully and unashamedly admitted that the main accusation against her was true. As Gabor told Rivera and his television audience, she did scream at her employees.
“Fight about when he spelled something wrong, when he done something wrong. I screamed at him because I’m a businesswoman, I need someone who can be a good secretary.”
Gabor also was happy to show how demanding she could be. When Busto went to say something when she was speaking, Gabor very bluntly told him, “Sit on the floor, you.” as the studio audience erupted in laughter.
